Job summary

Sacoma Specialty Products, LLC in Indiana is seeking an on-site Manufacturing Continuous Improvement Engineer to join our Engineering team. We tackle real manufacturing challenges, improve production processes, and work directly with equipment to turn ideas into measurable improvements on the production floor.

This role links engineering with manufacturing to boost safety, quality, efficiency, and overall performance.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering Technology degree or similar preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software (Creo preferred).
• 1–3 years in lean manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Experience troubleshooting, repairing and preventive maintenance on heavy industrial equipment.
• Industrial experience with electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Knowledge of PLC programming, sensors and servo motors is a plus.
• Experience conducting time studies and reporting data.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs applying product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials knowledge.
• Develop manufacturing processes by designing, modifying, and testing methods and equipment.
• Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
• Assist production with programming and adjusting robotic MIG welders and resistance welders.
• Ensure product and process quality by designing testing methods, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
• Calculate production costs and review schedules to estimate future requirements.
• Prepare product/process reports by collecting and analyzing manufacturing data and trends.
• Investigate current manufacturing technologies and implement mechanical improvements for repeatable, stable processes.
• Implement mechanical improvements to production equipment while maintaining specs.
• Perform hands-on improvements to manufacturing equipment ~70% of the time.
• Research and cost-improvement opportunities ~25% of the time.
• Carry out clerical tasks including purchase orders and project timelines ~5%.

Essential Responsibilities

• Evaluate manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs while applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
• Develop manufacturing processes by researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment.
• Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
• Assist production with programming and adjusting robotic MIG welders and resistance welders.
• Ensure product and process quality by designing testing methods, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes.
• Calculate production, labor, and material costs while reviewing production schedules and estimating future requirements.
• Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing manufacturing data and trends.
• Investigate current manufacturing technologies and implement mechanical improvements to create more repeatable, stable, and reliable manufacturing processes.
• Implement mechanical improvements to production equipment while maintaining equipment, process, and part specifications.
• Perform hands-on improvements to manufacturing equipment approximately 70% of the time.
• Research and cost improvement opportunities approximately 25% of the time.
• Perform clerical responsibilities, including purchase orders and project timelines, approximately 5% of the time.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering Technology degree or similar degree preferred. Equivalent work experience demonstrating mechanical knowledge, theory, and application will be considered.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software (Creo preferred).
• Minimum of 1-3 years of technical experience in a lean manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on heavy industrial manufacturing equipment.
• Industrial experience working with electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Knowledge of PLC programming, industrial sensors, and servo motors is a plus.
• Experience conducting time studies and reporting collected data.
