Job summary

Northern Manufacturing Co. in Oak Harbor, OH is seeking a manufacturing-focused engineer to determine how customer designs can be built accurately, efficiently, and profitably.

You will review drawings, CAD models, and shop-floor feedback to identify manufacturability issues and develop practical solutions. You’ll work between engineering and production, using SolidWorks for sheet metal and weldments, collaborating with welders, machinists, and Quality to improve cycle times and tooling.

Qualifications

• Strong 3D CAD skills to develop and interpret parts, assemblies, and production drawings.
• Strong blueprint reading and working knowledge of GD&T.
• Practical understanding of metal fabrication processes (laser cutting, forming, welding, machining).
• Ability to evaluate designs for manufacturability and identify production problems.
• Strong problem-solving and shop-floor collaboration abilities.
• Ability to communicate technical issues and recommended solutions.
• On-site work in Oak Harbor, Ohio.

Responsibilities

• Review designs for manufacturability by comparing drawings/models to Northern's fabrication capabilities (laser cutting, forming, welding, machining, finishing).
• Develop and modify CAD models and drawings using SolidWorks for sheet metal, weldments, and assemblies.
• Recommend practical DFM solutions and work with customers and internal teams on alternatives.
• Support fixture and work-holding design, weld sequencing, routing, and process development; improve cycle time and repeatability.
• Collaborate on the shop floor with welders, laser/press brake operators, machinists, Quality, and Production to troubleshoot and improve manufacturing.
