Manufacturing Buyer & Production Coordinator

Lone Star Downhole Products is seeking a resourceful, highly organized Manufacturing Buyer & Production Coordinator to manage the daily execution connecting customer orders, raw material, outside processing, work orders, vendors, and the production floor.

We are a vertically integrated manufacturer with CNC machining, elastomer molding, welding and fabrication, assembly, inspection, inventory, and shipping operations across a two-building campus.

Our work includes precision downhole components, MWD parts and assemblies, pressure housings, bearing components, rubber centralizers, specialty repairs, and other close-tolerance manufactured products. We routinely work with materials and processes including beryllium copper, Nitronic 50, 17-4 stainless steel, ToughMet, titanium, Inconel, 8620, gun drilling, heat treatment, coating, EDM, grinding, and outside machining.

This is not a general administrative purchasing position. The right person will understand that material specifications, heat and lot traceability, certifications, drawing revisions, process sequences, quantities, and committed delivery dates directly affect whether a manufacturing job succeeds or fails.

Primary Mission

Ensure every released job has the correct material, work order, outside-processing plan, documentation, and verified supplier commitments before missing information becomes a production emergency.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Procurement

• Issue clear and complete RFQs for raw material, outside processing, tooling, and overflow manufacturing.
• Source specialty metals and manufacturing services from qualified suppliers.
• Compare pricing, availability, freight, lead time, quality, certifications, payment terms, and total operational risk.
• Verify material grade, condition, size, quantity, specification, heat treatment requirements, certifications, and delivery requirements before issuing a purchase order.
• Prepare complete purchasing recommendations for approval.
• Create and issue purchase orders within established approval limits and controls.
• Confirm that suppliers have acknowledged the correct price, quantity, specifications, documentation, and promised delivery date.
• Follow every open purchase through receipt and verification rather than treating issuance of the PO as completion.
• Develop qualified alternate sources for critical materials, services, and outside processes.
• Maintain professional supplier relationships while holding vendors accountable for commitments.

Outside-Processing Coordination

• Coordinate jobs requiring gun drilling, heat treatment, coating, EDM, grinding, saw cutting, outside machining, or multiple external operations.
• Confirm that each supplier receives the correct part, quantity, drawing revision, purchase order, process requirements, and required completion date.
• Track parts as they move between LSDP and outside suppliers.
• Identify and elevate late, incomplete, unclear, or conflicting supplier commitments before they affect production.
• Coordinate pickup and delivery requirements with LSDP shipping and receiving personnel.
• Verify that completed outside processing is returned with the required certifications, packing slips, and supporting documentation.

Work Orders and Production Control

• Create accurate work orders and travelers from released sales‑order information.
• Confirm the correct customer, part number, drawing revision, quantity, material, routing, due date, outside‑processing requirements, and inspection requirements.
• Ensure production receives a complete, usable job packet before work begins.
• Maintain visibility into material readiness, outside‑processing status, work‑order status, and upcoming production requirements.
• Support the Manufacturing Operations Manager in identifying shortages and constraints affecting the production schedule.
• Maintain concise status records showing the next action, accountable owner, committed date, and current risk.
• Assist with consignment‑material records, monthly usage, replenishment, traceability, and financial‑liability visibility.
• Support inventory accuracy and ensure received material is properly documented and traceable.

Document Control and Administrative Execution

• Scan, name, organize, file, and retrieve purchase orders, work orders, travelers, packing slips, material certifications, certificates of conformance, and outside‑processing records.
• Maintain organized electronic and physical production records.
• Ensure documentation is complete before jobs are released, shipped, or closed.
• Coordinate with accounting to resolve purchase‑order, packing‑slip, quantity, pricing, and invoice discrepancies.
• Maintain useful supplier records, including capabilities, contacts, pricing history, lead times, performance concerns, and approved alternate sources.
• Help standardize purchasing, work‑order, and outside‑processing procedures so critical knowledge does not remain with one person.

Cross‑Functional Coordination

• Work closely with customer execution, production, quality, accounting, shipping and receiving, and company leadership.
• Coordinate administrative and logistical execution with shipping and receiving personnel while retaining ownership of supplier commitments and purchasing readiness.
• Communicate risks early, clearly, and with a recommended next action.
• Protect customer confidentiality, proprietary drawings, pricing information, and supplier relationships.
• Maintain urgency without sacrificing quality, traceability, or purchasing discipline.

Required Qualifications

• At least three years of purchasing, procurement, production‑control, planning, or operations‑coordination experience in manufacturing.
• Demonstrated experience purchasing raw material, manufactured components, and/or outside manufacturing services.
• Ability to read and accurately interpret material requirements, purchase specifications, technical drawings, and manufacturing routings.
• Experience creating or maintaining purchase orders, work orders, travelers, routings, or production packets.
• Strong supplier communication, expediting, documentation, and follow‑through.
• Ability to manage numerous open commitments without allowing important items to disappear into email.
• Strong spreadsheet, email, document‑management, and ERP or business‑system skills.
• Sound judgment regarding cost, urgency, lead time, quality, freight, and supplier risk.
• Strong attention to detail and a consistent habit of verifying completion.
• Professional written and verbal communication.
• Willingness to work full‑time on‑site in Cypress, Texas.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in precision CNC machining, oilfield manufacturing, aerospace, defense, energy, or another close‑tolerance manufacturing environment.
• Experience purchasing stainless steel, alloy steel, nickel alloys, copper alloys, titanium, or other specialty metals.
• Experience coordinating heat treatment, coating, gun drilling, EDM, grinding, or outside machining.
• Familiarity with material certifications, heat and lot traceability, consignment inventory, and revision‑controlled work orders.
• Knowledge of Houston‑area metal suppliers, processors, machine shops, and industrial vendors.
• Experience working directly with an owner or operations leader in a growing entrepreneurial company.

A college degree is not required when the candidate has relevant manufacturing experience and a demonstrated record of reliable execution.
