Job summary

Core Systems in Poway, California, is seeking a Software Technician to prepare, image, configure, test, and burn-in computers, servers, and electronic systems for manufacturing. You will ensure correct software images, BIOS/firmware, drivers, and customer-specific configurations are applied per controlled docs.

You will collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Production Control to document results, maintain traceability, and release systems for the next manufacturing stage.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-3 years in computer manufacturing, system integration, IT hardware support, or similar technical environment.
• Experience imaging computers or installing operating systems.
• Basic understanding of computer hardware and operating systems.
• Ability to follow detailed manufacturing and test procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform software imaging on desktops, workstations, servers, and electronic systems.
• Load approved operating systems and customer-specific images.
• Verify image version, revision, checksum, and configuration before installation.
• Install drivers, applications, and system files.
• Configure BIOS/UEFI settings per work instructions.
• Load and verify firmware and device-specific software.
• Maintain configuration control and prevent unauthorized versions.
• Troubleshoot failed or incomplete software burns and re-image as required.
• Set up systems for burn-in testing per procedures.
• Execute software-based and hardware-based burn-in tests.
• Monitor systems during burn-in for failures and anomalies.
• Record test results and document failures accurately.
• Coordinate with Engineering or Quality for investigations.
• Verify systems pass all testing before releasing to next operation.
• Follow controlled work instructions, travelers, procedures, drawings, BOMs, and customer requirements.
• Accurately complete production and inspection records.
• Record software image version, firmware, test results, serial numbers, and configuration information.
• Maintain traceability between serial numbers, work orders, images, and test results.
• Identify and report discrepancies in documentation and configuration.
• Document nonconformities and notify Quality or supervisor.
• Diagnose software installation and imaging failures.
• Troubleshoot OS, drivers, BIOS/UEFI, firmware, and hardware issues.
• Escalate complex issues to Engineering, Quality, or Management.
• Assist Engineering with reproducing software-related issues.
• Support root-cause investigations when recurring failures are identified.
• Work with Production Leads to meet schedules and ship dates.
• Prioritize systems based on production requirements.
• Support first-time builds and customer-specific configurations.
• Assist with process improvements to reduce imaging and testing time.
• Maintain organized software/test workstation and tools.
