Overview:

The Manufacturing and Service Technician is a versatile, multi-skilled role responsible for supporting manufacturing, equipment maintenance, and field service operations. This position performs a combination of machining, assembly, production support, preventive maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, and customer site service activities to ensure the efficient operation of manufacturing processes and equipment. The Manufacturing and Service Technician works with limited supervision, independently performs routine assignments, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and assists in training less experienced team members. This role requires flexibility to work across multiple functional areas while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities:
Manufacturing & Production Operations
  • Set up and operate various manufacturing equipment, including bandsaws, drill presses, broaches, CNC machines, and other production machinery.
  • Perform machining, fabrication, assembly, deburring, finishing, and related production activities.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and work orders to ensure products meet design requirements.
  • Verify materials, part dimensions, and job requirements before beginning work.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to inspect components and ensure compliance with specifications and tolerances.
  • Perform basic machine setups, offsets, tool changes, and production adjustments as trained and authorized.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections to verify quality standards are met.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve routine production, machining, and assembly issues.
  • Support workflow requirements by assisting across multiple production areas as needed.
  • Operate cranes, forklifts, and material handling equipment when trained and authorized.
  • Maintain accurate production documentation, records, and inspection reports.
  • Follow established manufacturing procedures, quality requirements, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with 5S principles.
Equipment Maintenance & Reliability Support
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities on manufacturing equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, inspection, and minor adjustments.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and identify potential mechanical, operational, or safety concerns.
  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment failures and support maintenance personnel during repairs and corrective actions.
  • Replace wear components, tooling, filters, hoses, belts, and other consumable items as trained and authorized.
  • Support equipment installations, upgrades, modifications, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining machine reliability and minimizing equipment downtime.
  • Support facility maintenance and general upkeep activities as required.
  • Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, and safety procedures during maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor spare parts inventories and communicate replenishment needs to supervision.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, operational efficiency, and workplace safety.
Field Service & Customer Support
  • Provide support for equipment installation, startup, commissioning, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities at customer sites.
  • Assist with assembly, disassembly, testing, and operational verification of equipment in the field.
  • Document service activities, equipment conditions, and repair recommendations accurately and professionally.
  • Communicate technical findings and status updates to supervisors, project teams, and customers.
  • Represent the company professionally while working at customer locations.
  • Ensure compliance with company, customer, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Travel periodically to support customer installations, maintenance projects, equipment repairs, and emergency service needs.
General Responsibilities
  • Cross-train and provide support across manufacturing, maintenance, and field service functions as business needs require.
  • Assist in training and mentoring Manufacturing Technician I employees and new team members.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, safety, productivity, and equipment reliability.
  • Maintain adherence to all company policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of manufacturing and operational objectives.
Qualifications:
Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of manufacturing, machining, industrial equipment, or related experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of machining principles and CNC machine operation.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge of machine shop safety practices, Lockout/Tagout requirements, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
Preferred
  • Technical school training in machining, manufacturing, industrial maintenance, or a related field.
  • Experience operating manual machine shop equipment.
  • Forklift, crane, or rigging experience.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience in heavy manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or maintenance tracking software.
  • Previous field service, equipment installation, or industrial service experience.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally for customer support and field service assignments.
  • Primarily works in a manufacturing and machine shop environment.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, vibration, heat, and moving mechanical equipment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and material handling activities.
  • May occasionally work in maintenance, industrial, construction, or customer-site environments.
  • May require occasional travel to customer locations to support field service activities.
  • May require occasional evening, weekend, or extended hours to meet production, maintenance, or customer service needs.
  • Must be able to safely lift and move materials and equipment in accordance with company policies and safety requirements.
