Job summary

Freedom, a leading direct mail service provider, is seeking an Accounting Manager in Aurora, IL. The role leads corporate accounting, monthly close, and reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with US GAAP.

You will manage a small team, partner with plant controllers and leadership, support budgeting and forecasting, and drive internal controls improvements while coordinating with A/P, A/R, and treasury. Travel to the Aurora plant as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with month-end close and financial statement prep.
• 2+ years of people leadership experience.
• Manufacturing experience strongly preferred (inventory, standard costing, COGS, reporting).
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Excel; experience improving close/reporting processes.
• CPA preferred (or progress toward certification).

Responsibilities

• Lead the month-end close process with journal entries and reconciliations; drive improvements to shorten close timelines.
• Prepare or oversee monthly financial statements and management reporting packages with KPIs.
• Manage corporate accounting activities including accruals, fixed assets, inventory/COGS, leases, intercompany.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and accounting policies; document positions and update guidance.
• Maintain internal controls; support audits and timely audit requests.
• Support budgeting/forecasting and ad hoc financial analyses with leadership.
• Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and investigate issues.
• Assist cash flow visibility through accruals and working capital reporting; coordinate with A/P, A/R, treasury.
• Lead, coach, and develop a small team; drive accountability and continuous improvement.
• Ensure timely tax filings and compliance with tax regulations.
• Drive process improvements in ERP, close management, and reporting; document procedures.
