Job summary

Insteel Industries in Mt. Airy, NC seeks a Machinist to install, maintain, and repair machinery, and to fabricate parts using lathes, mills, and band saws. You will read blueprints and work to tight tolerances, measuring with micrometers and calipers.

The role requires basic shop math, troubleshooting skills, and a strong attention to safety. Minimum three years' related experience; high school with shop training or an associate degree preferred.

Qualifications

• Broad technical training beyond high school plus apprenticeship.
• Minimum of three years' related experience.

Responsibilities

• Read and comprehend components on blueprints and drawings.
• Operate a lathe and mill to fabricate metal parts or fixtures.
• Operate vertical and horizontal band saws.
• Work under close tolerances and use measuring equipment to confirm conformity.
• Basic troubleshooting of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
• Create drawings or sketches for parts made in the machine shop.
