Job summary

Mueller Industries is seeking a Manual Machinist in Covington, TN to set up and operate traditional machine tools and manufacture precision parts. You will read drawings, select tooling, and perform turning, milling, drilling, and grinding with tight tolerances.

The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, a high school diploma or GED, and experience in metalworking and shop mathematics. Physical stamina to stand for long shifts and lift up to 50 lbs is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; vocational training preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of metalworking techniques.
• Proficiency in shop mathematics (geometry and trigonometry).
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work on a standing shift.

Responsibilities

• Blueprint & Drawing Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and blueprints to determine the correct methods, materials, and sequence of operations.
• Machine Setup & Operation: Align, secure, and adjust workpieces and cutting tools on manual equipment. Calculate and set correct feeds, speeds, and depth of cuts. Fabrication: Manually turn, mill, drill, shape, and grind materials to exact dimensional tolerances (often within ± 0.001").
• Quality Assurance & Inspection: Routinely use precision measuring instruments —including micrometers, calipers, and gauges—to inspect parts during and after the machining process.
• Machine Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on machinery, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn cutting tools to ensure optimal performance.
