Job description

Synerfac is seeking a Manual Machinist for our client in North Charleston, SC. Our client solves the largest and most complex industrial machining and fabrication challenges for clients around the globe. Machinists in this position will set up and operate manual machines to produce high-quality components with accuracy and efficiency. Candidates should have experience with manually controlled machinery and be proficient in bench work related to the fabrication, maintenance, repair, and modification of machinery, parts, tools, and equipment.

Responsibilities and Functions:

  1. Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments
  2. Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints and follow instructions
  3. Machine parts out of metal
  4. Properly and safely select, align, secure, and remove holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
  5. Recognize, deploy, and properly use inserts, fixtures, and tooling
  6. Determine the proper tools required to perform given tasks
  7. Operate and utilize lifting aids as necessary to perform work
  8. Use gauges and precision measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements
  9. Perform daily, regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment
  10. Perform all tasks in a safe and responsible manner while maintaining a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  11. Work overtime as needed on evenings and/or weekends

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret various technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • Familiarity with the use of Heavy Duty Horizontal Lathes, Milling Machines, Horizontal Boring Mills, Vertical Turning Lathes, Planers, Grinders, Drill Presses, Hydraulic Presses, Band Saws, and Portable Tools
  • Turning, Drilling, Tapping, Boring, Honing, Polishing machine processes
  • Large part machining experience (e.g., ship propeller shafting, ship steering gear)
  • In-place machining experience
  • Forklift and Crane experience
