Dixon Automatic Tool, Inc. is a family-owned business founded in 1946, located in the southeast side of Rockford, IL. We design and build automated assembly machinery with close-tolerance tooling and construction, along with OEM and outside job shop work.

We are looking for an experienced Class A Manual Machinist to fill a full-time position. This is not a remote position.

This position is responsible for machining low-volume tooling, modifications to tooling, or secondary operations using:

• Tree & Bridgeport vertical manual mills with digital readouts
• Manual lathes
• Surface grinders
• Band saws
• Drill press
• Polisher

Although helpful to have skills in the following equipment, it is not necessary:

• CNC vertical mills such as Doosan, Fadal, Milltronics knee mills
• Mazak CNC lathes with live tooling
• MasterCAM, Solidworks, G-Code, and Mazatrol software/languages

Primary Responsibilities:

• Machining low-volume tooling from raw materials or blanks/castings
• Performing precise secondary machining on low-volume production parts
• Re-working completed tooling parts requiring modifications
• Conceptualizing, machining, and assembling fixtures as requested
• Reading routing instructions and interpreting blueprints, 2D & 3D models
• Setting up manual mills and lathes for machining operations
• Preparing raw materials and de-burring completed parts
• Performing inspection checks to ensure parts meet specifications
• Managing time efficiently, both direct and indirect
• Maintaining a clean and safe work area
• Performing daily machinery upkeep including managing chips, coolant, and lubrication
• Working with and training other employees
