Job description

Job Responsibilities

1. Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
2. Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
3. Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpieces as guides for subsequent machining.
4. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
5. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
6. Verifies conformance of finished workpieces to specifications.
7. Sets up and operates machine on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
8. Verifies dimensions and alignment of assemblies.
9. Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of units to ensure functionality and performance.
10. Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
11. Develops specifications from general descriptions and draws sketches of parts or products to be fabricated.
12. Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
13. Follows instructions, responds to management direction, and asks for or offers help when needed.
14. Performs additional tasks or projects as assigned.
