Job summary

Sulzer is seeking a skilled machinist to set up and operate a range of conventional machine tools, interpreting drawings and GD&T to produce and recondition components to tight tolerances. The role emphasizes precision measurement, method design, and mentoring junior staff.

Ideal candidates will have formal machinist training, 4+ years of shop experience, and the ability to work in a team with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Completion of a machinist apprentice program or equivalent training.
• Ability to hold close tolerances and conduct inspections.
• Ability to set up machine tools: ID/OD Grinders, Turret Lathe, Engine Lathe, Horizontal/Vertical Boring Mill, Radial Drill, Planer Mill.
• Four years of experience in machine shop operations.
• Willingness to work in a team environment.
• Openness to overtime as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform layouts, set up and operate conventional machine tools as required.
• Read and interpret all drawings, including GD&T.
• Design setup methods where none exist.
• Instruct other shop personnel on machining techniques.
• Continually improve methods to deliver higher quality with better costs.

About the role

Job Summary

Set up and operate machine tools, including HBM, VBM, lathes, milling machines, ID/OD grinders, planers, and bore, without assistance, following department policy and procedures manual, to manufacture and recondition component parts to customer, OEM and industry standards. Interprets mechanical drawings, blueprints, and sketches and performs precision metal cutting, grinding, shaping and fitting. Measures components, parts, and raw materials with precision measuring instruments, gauges, and tools. Works under limited supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Performing layouts, setting up and operating conventional machine tools as required
• Reading and interpreting all drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
• Designing setup methods where none exist
• Instructing other shop personnel on proper machining techniques
• Continually improving methods to deliver higher quality with improved costs
