Job summary

Benshaw Inc. in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a skilled machinist to perform production tasks on manual, NC and CNC equipment, following blueprints, process sheets and sketches to shape parts to precise tolerances.

This role requires 2–3 years’ experience on manual machines and a high school diploma or technical training. Reading metric drawings and converting to standard measurements are essential; cross-training opportunities are available.

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture and inspect parts from blueprints using a variety of machining tools and equipment (Manual mills, drill presses, band saws, shearing & punching presses, bending jigs) and using math.
  • Converts metric drawings to standard.
  • Determines how to set up machines based on instructions received.
  • Perform minor repairs of equipment.
  • Keep work area clean and safe, maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Prove out CNC programs when required.

Location: 615 Alpha Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15238
Schedule: Monday-Friday 6am-2:30pm
Position Overview:
Work includes various routine and semi-routine assignment planning, layout, set up, operating and making tool adjustments for various types of manual, numerically controlled and computerized machine shop equipment. Under general supervision, works from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions. May communicate directly with engineers to understand the purpose of a part assembly. Checks and inspects machining operations against specified tolerances. May identify and repair minor machine malfunctions. Complete other duties as assigned. This role involves cross-training opportunities in other departments to enhance skills and support team needs.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Manufacture and inspects detailed parts from blueprints, sketches, drawings and verbal instructions using a variety of machining tools and equipment ( Manual mills, drill presses, Band saws, shearing & punch presses, flexibus bending jigs, and other machining equipment) and using math.
  • Convert Metric Drawings to Standard.
  • Determines how to set up machines based on instructions received.
  • Perform minor repairs of equipment.
  • Keep work area clean and free from safety hazards. Maintain acceptable quality and efficiency level.
  • Prove out CNC programs when required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school or equivalent
  • Technical/trade school
  • 2-3 years’ experience on manual machines
Physical Requirements:
  • This position requires the ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods, up to 8 or more hours per shift, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to safely lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Requires frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and repetitive use of the hands and arms to perform job duties.
  • Must be able to use hand tools, power tools, and other manufacturing equipment safely and effectively.
  • Requires sufficient visual acuity to inspect parts, read work instructions, and perform quality checks.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment that may include exposure to noise, moving machinery, varying temperatures, and other industrial conditions while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
