MBC Talent Connections is seeking an experienced Manual Lathe Machinist to join our Chicago team to produce precision components for heavy industrial applications. You will operate manual vertical lathes, read blueprints, and ensure parts meet tight tolerances with meticulous quality control.

This hands-on role requires proficiency with precision measurement tools and safe handling of heavy workpieces, along with a strong commitment to quality and safety.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience operating manual vertical lathes.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement instruments and techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and specifications.
  • Understanding of tight tolerances and quality standards.
  • Experience with heavy industrial components and castings.
  • Safety-conscious and able to handle heavy materials.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual vertical lathe systems for rough and finish machining operations.
  • Read and interpret technical blueprints to ensure accurate specifications are met.
  • Calculate optimal speeds and feeds for various materials and machining operations.
  • Perform quality inspections using precision measurement tools (micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, depth gauges).
  • Load and unload heavy workpieces safely using overhead cranes and rigging equipment.
  • Maintain equipment in good working order and document work accurately.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues to maintain productivity and quality.

Manual Lathe Machinist
About This Role

We're hiring an experienced Manual Vertical Lathe Machinist to join our team and produce precision components for heavy industrial applications. You'll operate and maintain large vertical turret lathes, working from technical blueprints to deliver high-quality results that meet tight tolerances. This is hands‑on technical work where your skill and attention to detail make a real difference.

What You'll Do
  • Set up and operate manual vertical lathe systems for rough and finish machining operations
  • Read and interpret technical blueprints to ensure accurate specifications are met
  • Calculate optimal speeds and feeds for various materials and machining operations
  • Perform quality inspections using precision measurement tools (micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, depth gauges)

What We're Looking For
Required:
  • 2+ years of hands‑on experience operating manual vertical lathes
  • Proficiency with precision measurement instruments and techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and specifications
  • Strong understanding of tight tolerances and quality standards
  • Experience working with heavy industrial components and castings
  • Ability to safely handle heavy materials and equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and genuine commitment to quality work
Preferred:
  • Experience working with steel, aluminum, or other industrial materials
  • Familiarity with overhead crane operations
  • Knowledge of machine maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Safety certifications or formal training
Position Details

Full-Time | $30–$32/hour (based on experience)
