Job summary

Guided Search Partners is seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to operate manual lathes and milling machines, read engineering drawings, and produce precision components to tight tolerances.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of hands-on machining in a job shop or precision manufacturing environment, with strong GD&T knowledge, and the ability to work independently to meet production schedules while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience as a Manual Machinist, with strong setup and inspection skills.
  • Proficient with manual engine lathes and milling machines.
  • Able to read drawings, GD&T, and perform precision measuring.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual lathes and milling machines to produce precision parts.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements.
  • Select tooling, workholding, speeds, feeds, and cutting tools.
  • Perform turning, milling, drilling, tapping, and other machining operations.
  • Measure parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and height gauges.
  • Maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish across production runs.
  • Identify issues and troubleshoot tooling, setup, and tolerances.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas.
  • Follow quality and safety procedures; work independently to meet production schedules.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Manual Machinist with strong hands‑on experience operating manual lathes and milling machines. The ideal candidate will be skilled in precision machining, blueprint interpretation, setup, inspection, and producing quality components to tight tolerances. Experience in a job shop, manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or other precision‑machining environment is highly desirable.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate manual engine lathes and milling machines to produce precision components.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, and GD&T requirements.
  • Select appropriate tooling, workholding, speeds, feeds, and cutting tools.
  • Perform turning, facing, boring, threading, drilling, tapping, reaming, milling, and other machining operations.
  • Measure and inspect completed parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, height gauges, and other precision instruments.
  • Make necessary machine adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
  • Work with a variety of metals and materials, including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and other alloys.
  • Perform machine setups, including workholding and tool alignment.
  • Maintain accurate dimensions and tolerances throughout production runs.
  • Identify machining issues and troubleshoot tooling, setup, and dimensional problems.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment issues as needed.
  • Follow company quality, safety, and production procedures.
  • Work independently while meeting established production schedules and quality requirements.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience as a Manual Machinist preferred.
  • Strong experience operating both manual lathes and manual mills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and machining tolerances.
  • Strong knowledge of precision measuring tools and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to perform basic shop math and calculate speeds, feeds, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Experience machining close‑tolerance parts.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, precision manufacturing, or machine‑shop environments.
  • Experience working with tight tolerances and complex components.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems.
  • Formal machining education, apprenticeship, or technical‑school training.
  • Experience with CNC equipment is a plus, but this is primarily a manual machining position.
