Job summary

PeopleShare by PROMAN in Norfolk, VA is seeking dependable General Laborers to join our mattress manufacturing team. You will assist across production departments—helping prepare raw materials, supporting machine operators, moving inventory, and ensuring finished components meet our strict quality standards.

You will lift, move, and stage materials, assemble and offload finished components, and help keep workstations safe and organized while adhering to shop safety policies.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly.
• Able to stand, walk, bend, and perform heavy lifting.
• Good eye-hand coordination and attention to detail.
• Basic math, ruler reading, and counting lengths.

Responsibilities

• Handle material movement and staging to supply production areas.
• Support machine operators with loading and positioning materials.
• Assemble and offload finished mattress panels and components.
• Visually inspect materials and finished pieces for defects.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workstation.
• Perform basic equipment care and routine maintenance tasks.
• Strictly follow safety protocols and company policies.

Shift: 6AM-4:30PM-Tuseday- Friday

About the Role

We are looking for dependable, hard-working General Laborers to join our fast-paced mattress manufacturing team. In this role, you will assist across various production departments—helping prepare raw materials, supporting machine operators, moving inventory, and ensuring finished components meet our strict quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Material Handling & Staging: Walk to storage areas to retrieve and deliver raw materials (fabric, foam rolls, fiber, backing) to machine stations as needed.
• Production Support: Assist machine operators with loading, reloading, and positioning materials on production equipment.
• Assembly & Offloading: Lift, stack, pack, and transition finished mattress panels and components between workstations.
• Quality Inspection: Visually inspect materials and finished pieces for defects, tears, or misalignments before moving them to the next stage of production.
• Workstation Maintenance: Keep work areas neat, organized, clean, and free of debris to maintain a safe working environment.
• Equipment Care: Perform basic cleaning and routine maintenance duties around machines and work areas.
• Compliance: Strictly adhere to all safety protocols, company policies, and workplace guidelines.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Physical Capability: Ability to lift, push, pull, and move 50+ lbs. repeatedly throughout an 8-hour shift.
• Dexterity & Coordination: Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
• Basic Math & Measurement: Basic math skills, with the ability to read/use a ruler, calculate simple fractions, and accurately record counts/lengths.
• Work Ethic: Detail-oriented, organized, punctual, and able to thrive in a team-oriented manufacturing setting.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Active, manufacturing plant environment.
• Position requires continuous standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and heavy lifting.
