BASIS Independent Brooklyn Lower School is seeking a Temporary Mandarin Teaching Fellow to support Mandarin classes and assist the lead teacher in delivering a hands-on, content-rich curriculum for PK-2 students in Brooklyn.
The fellow will learn BASIS model, attend staff meetings, and contribute to a positive school culture while preparing for future lead teaching opportunities. Hours are 7:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday, from December 2026 to April 2027.
The Mandarin Teaching Fellow will float between Mandarin classes and assist the lead teacher to create an environment where learning is a joyful and rewarding experience that maintains the integrity of each child's imagination and natural curiosity. The environment fosters an exposure to a thematic, hands-on, comprehensive, and content-rich curriculum. It creates a blueprint for children not only to transition with ease to kindergarten and first grade, but also to become enthusiastic, lifelong learners. Ultimately, the goal of the program is to foster a sense of wonder while engaging in the world that surrounds us, equipping students with a foundation for future success.
The Mandarin Teaching Fellow's role is to assist the lead teacher while learning the BASIS Independent Schools model with opportunities for growth and a successful transition into Lead Teacher roles. Teaching Fellows have the opportunity to learn all aspects of the school preparing them for the classroom or administration in the future. Teaching Fellows help in the efforts to build and maintain a strong, positive achievement-oriented school culture. This position is a visible presence in all areas of the school and can assist with any issues relating to the well-being of the students during their time at the school.
The Mandarin Teaching Fellows will be required to attend all staff meetings and any training required of Teachers. This position will work with Pre-K through Grade 2 students from 7:30am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday.
This is a temporary position beginning in December 2026 with an anticipated end date of April 2027.
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in the subject area. Coursework or experience in education is not required, nor is certification.
Preferred Qualifications: A successful applicant will demonstrate strong communication skills and be open to new ideas in teaching methods.
