Job summary

Mission Essential seeks linguists proficient in Mam at ILR Level 2+ or higher to support HHS I programs for unaccompanied minors. The role includes in-person, onsite interpretation at ORR sites and remote interpretation as needed, with readiness for 24/7 requests.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced language skills in English and Mam, strong cultural awareness, and the ability to translate documents while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.

Qualifications

• ILR Level 2+ proficiency required in English and Mam.
• Experience or education that demonstrates advanced language skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person, onsite interpretation at ORR programs and locations.
• Deliver remote interpretation via telephone or videoconference as needed.
• Facilitate clear communication between Care Staff and UC/UAM/URM in native language.
• Assist UC/UAM/URM in expressing concerns when English or staff language is a barrier.
• Exercise professional judgment to mitigate language barriers in sensitive situations.
• Support orientation of UC/UAM/URM to community resources through interpretation/translation.
• Translate documents English ↔ target language as required.
• Help Care Staff build rapport with consideration of cultural context.
