Job summary

The Mission Essential Group, LLC in San Benito, TX is seeking Mandarin interpreters at ILR Level 2+ to support the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services programs for unaccompanied minors.

You will provide accurate interpretation and translation, working as a communication liaison to ensure all parties understand each other in various settings. Responsibilities include onsite interpretation at ORR locations, remote interpretation as needed (including 24/7 requests), and translating

Qualifications

• ILR Level 2+ proficiency in English and Mandarin (listening, speaking, reading, writing).
• Successful Tier 2 background check.
• Discretion and professional judgment in linguistics.
• Autonomy and responsibility in managing language services for ORR programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person, onsite interpretation at ORR programs and service locations (preferred).
• Deliver remote interpretation services via telephone, videoconference, or other means, including 24/7 availability.
• Facilitate communication between Care Staff and UC/UAM/URM in preferred languages.
• Assist UC/UAM/URM in expressing concerns or needs when not fluent in English or staff language.
• Apply advanced language skills and cultural expertise to mitigate language barriers and ensure effective communication.
• Support orientation of UC/UAM/URM to community resources through interpretation and translation.
• Translate documents between English and target language, and occasionally from other languages as required.
• Help Care Staff build rapport and understand cultural context of populations served.
