Job summary

Mission Essential seeks linguists fluent in Mam or target languages to support U.S. Department of Health and Human Services programs. The role requires ILR Level 2+ proficiency and confidentiality to interpret and translate for unaccompanied minors and care staff.

Work includes on-site interpretation at ORR programs and remote services, with potential 24/7 coverage. Background check required; prior linguistics experience preferred.

Qualifications

• ILR Level 2+ proficiency in English and target language (listening, speaking, reading, writing) via degree or experience.
• Ability to apply advanced language skills, cultural expertise, and professional judgment in sensitive settings.
• Experience exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality in linguistics.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person onsite interpretation at ORR programs and locations, preferably on site.
• Deliver remote interpretation via phone or video as needed, including 24/7 availability.
• Facilitate communication between care staff, UC/UAM/URM and staff in their language.
• Assist clients in expressing questions or needs when not fluent in English.
• Translate documents English ⇄ target language as required.
