Job summary

Environmental Resources Management (ERM) seeks a Managing Technical Consultant, Compliance Engineer to lead complex environmental compliance initiatives from Indianapolis. You will guide clients through air permitting, hazardous waste, and audits, delivering technically rigorous and defensible solutions.

You will mentor teams, manage budgets and schedules, and travel up to 20% regionally. A PE license and a strong track record in multi-project delivery are required to shape compliance at scale.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental compliance, permitting, and auditing
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration
  • Ability to manage multiple projects within scope, budget, and schedule
  • Strong leadership skills with mentoring experience
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% regionally/nationally
  • Driver's License
  • Not eligible for immigration sponsorship

  • Manage project execution, including budgeting, QA/QC, and regulatory assessments
  • Lead development of permits and reports (air, EPCRA, SPCC, stormwater, NPDES, wastewater)
  • Conduct environmental audits and implement corrective actions
  • Collaborate with ERM experts to deliver integrated solutions
  • Maintain client relationships and manage scope, budget and schedule

What You’ll Bring:
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental compliance, permitting, and auditing
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects within scope, budget, and schedule
  • Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and building collaborative teams
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for client engagement
  • Ability to travel up to 20% regionally and occasionally nationally
  • Driver's License
  • Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship
Preferred:
  • Certifications such as HAZWOPER, CHMM, or similar
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical expertise and oversight on hazardous waste, hazardous materials, and compliance projects
  • Manage project execution, including budgeting, QA/QC, and regulatory assessments
  • Lead development of compliance plans, permits, and reports (air, EPCRA, SPCC, stormwater, NPDES, wastewater)
  • Conduct environmental audits and implement corrective actions to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate with ERM subject matter experts to deliver integrated solutions
  • Build strong client relationships and maintain scope, budget, and schedule expectations
  • Support ERM Partners-in-Charge and Project Managers in delivering high-quality outcomes
