Managing Technical Consultant, Archaeologist (Senior Level)

Overview

ERM is seeking a highly motivated Managing Technical Consultant, Archaeologist to join our global consulting firm within our Cultural Resources Services team. This is a full-time, salaried position that can be based from a local ERM office or remotely. Preference is given to candidates located in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or New Orleans, with familiarity with regional regulatory processes (federal, state, municipal). Proven regional consulting experience is required. The role involves providing technical assistance across the U.S., project management, and business development within the region.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee teams conducting literature reviews, field reconnaissance, surveys, and excavations for archaeological projects.
  • Support ERM’s business growth through technical consulting in archaeology and cultural heritage.
  • Collaborate with other ERM practice areas to share resources and best practices nationwide.
  • Represent ERM with state, federal, and local agencies.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients via email and calls.
  • Manage subcontractors and assist in proposal development.
  • Handle multiple projects within scope, budget, schedule, and quality standards.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage performance of the technical team.
  • Leverage existing client relationships and develop new ones to expand ERM’s market share.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams across the global ERM organization.
  • Engage with State Historic Preservation Offices, federal agencies, and online databases.
  • Lead fieldwork and technical report writing as needed.
Minimum Requirements
  • Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field plus 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist.
  • Ability to obtain archaeological and cultural resource permits.
  • Experience with inventory, survey, testing, and data recovery.
  • Proven experience as primary author of agency-reviewed technical reports.
  • Strong attention to detail in documentation.
  • Proficiency in permitting regulations (FERC, USACE, THC, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and computer skills.
  • Business development skills and ability to maintain client relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with energy projects and laboratory materials processing.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Detail-oriented, resourceful, positive attitude, self-motivated.
