Job summary

Exponent in Washington, DC is seeking a Managing Scientist focused on Water Resources, Agricultural, or Nutrient Management to join our Ecological and Biological Sciences Practice. You will work with a team to support existing projects and business development in DC and closely related offices.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and have several years of consulting experience, with strong data analysis, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to communicate findings via reports and presentations.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Water Resources, Ecology, Agricultural Science, Engineering, or another related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience, with at least three (3) years of direct consulting experience.
• Expert-level knowledge of land-use activities including agricultural science, soil science, crop and livestock management, water resources and irrigation practices.
• Working knowledge of farming practices with scientific sampling methodologies and state-of-the-science on terrestrial, wildlife, soil, and water quality issues.
• Proven experience with data analysis and statistics.
• Proven experience managing tasks of moderate scope and complexity.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects and communicate within multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated ability in written and oral communications.
• Strong commitment to personal development and the development of staff.
• Presently legally authorized to work in the United States. No immigration sponsorship or processing required.

Responsibilities

• Strategic business development and client networking to grow science and engineering services globally in water resources, agricultural, and nutrient management.
• Understand and interpret water resources and land-use activities focusing on environmental issues, including agricultural and nutrient management.
• Demonstrated understanding of federal and state regulations, environmental monitoring, site infrastructure, and production processes.
• Direct and support analyses and preparing regulatory documents and expert reports.
• Synthesize technical information and apply creative and critical thinking to prepare and review reports and presentations.
• Develop and maintain professional status by authoring peer-reviewed publications and participating in technical conferences.
• Collaborate on projects with multidisciplinary teams across Exponent practices.
