Job summary

Exponent, Inc. is seeking a Managing Engineer for its Vehicle Engineering Practice with expertise in ADAS and automated vehicles. The role supports offices in Phoenix, AZ; Natick, MA; and Menlo Park, CA, leading consulting projects on system design, testing, and regulatory considerations.

You will manage projects, grow the practice, build client relationships, and mentor junior staff while traveling as needed to client sites. A Ph.D.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of work experience in ADAS, automated vehicles (AVs), and/or vehicle and automotive system design, development, testing, and deployment.
• Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required.
• Ability to leverage industry connections to generate new business and projects.
• Manage and foster strong client relationships.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interact with managers, engineers, non-technical personnel, and clients and present technical topics in a cogent and comprehensible manner.
• Strong leadership and communication skills and experience mentoring junior staff.
• Field and/or lab measurement experience with good hands-on skills.
• Versatile, team-oriented, willing to work overtime and travel when required.

Responsibilities

• Managing projects from initiation to completion; communicating project updates to other team members, clients, and administrative staff; ensuring that Exponent meets its deadlines and produces exceptional work product; and identifying business development opportunities.
• Developing and growing the Vehicle Engineering Practice by generating new business and projects.
• Developing and managing client relationships.
• Managing, mentoring, and providing project work for junior consulting staff.
• Handling project and cost management on casework.
• Setting up and executing various test programs, including full-scale vehicle tests and component or control systems evaluations.
• Continuing to develop specialized expertise in the automotive field such as the design, performance, and testing of existing or emerging automotive technology.
