Forum Communications Company, parent to the Grand Forks Herald, seeks a Managing Editor to lead day-to-day newsroom operations and shape editorial direction for print and digital platforms. You will work with the Executive Editor to deliver timely, impactful reporting while fostering an innovative, collaborative culture.

The role requires a bachelor’s in journalism and at least five years of leadership in a newsroom, with strong AP style and ethical standards, and a track record in audience

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field is required.
• At least five years in newsroom editing and leadership roles.
• Strong news judgment, ethics, AP style, and public records knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily newsroom operations, directing editorial staff and workflows.
• Supervise and develop newsroom employees, including hiring and performance management.
• Hands-on editor with strong journalism standards and editorial judgment.
• Set editorial priorities with the Executive Editor and respond to breaking news.
• Oversee story budgeting, assignment, and execution aligned with audience goals.
• Edit complex stories and guide reporters to improve depth and clarity.
• Lead enterprise and investigative reporting across platforms.
• Drive audience growth via analytics and digital best practices.
• Champion multimedia storytelling using video, visuals, and social media.
• Ensure consistency across digital and print products and meet deadlines.
