Job Summary:

The Managing Director of Strategic Sourcing will oversee the Direct Materials & Co-Manufacturing Procurement function at Tyson Foods, managing an annual spend of over $4 billion. This role will lead a team of 35+ procurement professionals, driving strategic initiatives to optimize sourcing processes, enhance supplier relationships, and ensure the efficient and cost-effective procurement of materials and services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in strategic sourcing, procurement management, and team leadership within the food industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic sourcing strategies for Direct Materials & Co-Manufacturing Procurement to achieve cost savings, quality improvements, and supplier performance enhancements.
  • Lead and manage a team of 35+ procurement professionals, providing direction, mentorship, and performance management to ensure team effectiveness and development.
  • Oversee the procurement of direct materials, including ingredients, packaging, and co-manufacturing services, ensuring alignment with company goals and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage relationships with key suppliers, negotiating contracts, and fostering partnerships to ensure reliable supply chains and favorable terms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Operations, and Finance, to align procurement strategies with business objectives and drive innovation.
  • Monitor market trends, industry developments, and supply chain risks to proactively address potential challenges and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Develop and manage the procurement budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and adherence to financial targets.
  • Implement and maintain procurement policies, procedures, and systems to ensure transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives within the procurement function, promoting environmentally responsible sourcing practices and supplier diversity.
  • Report on procurement performance metrics, providing insights and recommendations to senior leadership for informed decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the Tyson BU partners & ELT members. This role requires outstanding internal stakeholder management & must act as the liaison between the Procurement team and the business units.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. A Master's degree or MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale procurement operations.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience leading multiple tiered organizations
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement best practices, market trends, and regulatory requirements within the food industry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions and implement strategic initiatives.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and tools, with experience in ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle.
  • Commitment to ethical sourcing practices and sustainability initiatives.
