Position Overview
The Managing Director, Strategic Communications, will be a senior leader who helps build, lead and scale Consello's Strategic Communications practice. This is a role for an established advisor who can originate and deepen marquee client relationships, set the strategic communications agenda for complex engagements, and represent Consello with authority before C-suite executives, Boards and other senior stakeholders. The Managing Director will pair exceptional corporate communications judgment with a highly credible, active network across media, digital platforms and influential convening channels. They will bring a forward-looking point of view on the evolving information environment and translate it into differentiated counsel, market access and measurable business outcomes for clients globally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the origination, design and delivery of high-value strategic communications engagements for Fortune 500 C-suite and Board-level clients, including M&A, IPOs, earnings, crisis and issues management, leadership transitions, event engagement, executive positioning and enterprise reputation.
- Serve as the accountable senior advisor to C-suite executives and Boards on the firm's most sensitive, consequential and visible mandates. Use an established network across senior media, digital platforms and influential offline forums to deliver real-time market intelligence, shape narratives and secure strategic opportunities across earned, owned and paid channels.
- Build the practice's commercial and operating platform in the U.S. and globally: establish go-to-market priorities, develop offerings and intellectual property, shape team structure and standards, and help drive profitable, sustainable growth. Attract, develop and retain exceptional talent; set a high bar for client service, quality, collaboration and professional judgment across engagements.
- Mobilize the full Consello platform by partnering with leaders across Corporate Advisory, M&A, Management Consulting, Talent, Risk, Sports and Entertainment, investing and marketing. Integrate complementary expertise into distinctive, multidisciplinary solutions and create cross-practice opportunities that deepen client relationships.
- Act as a visible external ambassador for the practice and collaborate with Consello's marketing team to strengthen the firm's and its executives' thought leadership, market profile and strategic relationships across priority platforms.
Role Specifics
- This position reports to Blake Sonnenshein, Senior Managing Director, Strategic Communications, and will operate as a senior practice leader with substantial autonomy and accountability.
- Requires enterprise-wide collaboration and the ability to identify, develop and lead communications opportunities across Consello's client base and advisory practices.
- Requires daily engagement with highly accomplished executives, Board members, investors and other senior stakeholders, demanding exceptional gravitas, strategic clarity, discretion and calm leadership under pressure.
- Requires a commercially minded, entrepreneurial leader who can represent Consello independently, exercise sound judgment in ambiguous situations and convert relationships, insights and platform capabilities into durable client impact and growth.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 15 years of corporate or strategic communications experience, including a demonstrated Managing Director-, Partner- or equivalent-level track record advising C-suite and Board-level clients on high-stakes matters and elevating enterprise profiles across owned, earned and paid channels.
- Demonstrated success building and leading high-performing teams and practices, including talent development, senior-level quality control and commercial leadership. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to shape persuasive counsel and messaging at the highest levels.
- A deep, established and actively maintained network of senior media, industry and platform relationships that can be credibly activated on behalf of clients. Demonstrated judgment and executive presence in leading multiple high-stakes engagements, making decisions under pressure and protecting client and firm reputation.
- Proven business-development and client-expansion record, with the ability to originate opportunities, build trusted sponsorship and grow long-term relationships. Senior leadership experience at a leading communications advisory firm, financial services organization, media organization or comparable in-house function strongly preferred.
- Global operating experience and a sophisticated international perspective strongly preferred, given Consello's office footprint, client base and growth ambitions.
Compensation: $300,000 starting base salary, plus annual discretionary bonus.
