Job summary

Principal Financial Group is seeking a senior leader to develop and grow a network of financial advisors across the territory. You will attract, train and retain top talent while guiding a team to meet sales and business objectives. The role emphasizes culture-building, ethics and customer focus.

You will recruit experienced advisors, apply broad sales techniques, and navigate licensing requirements. Some travel is required as you expand the practice and leadership footprint.

Qualifications

  • Requires bachelor degree or eight years of equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years related work experience, including sales and management.
  • Recruiting of experienced financial advisors, strongly preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of sales techniques and regulations governing insurance and security sales.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to recruit, select, train, lead, manage and supervise a diverse group of producers to meet goals.
  • Ability to develop and maintain community relations.
  • Chartered Life Underwriter/Chartered Financial Consultant (CLU/ChFC), CFP or CLF designations desired.
  • Some travel required, including overnight stays (up to 15%).

Who You Are
  • Requires bachelor degree or eight years of equivalent experience.

Licenses and/or exams necessary for this position include
  • Resident state Life/Health and Variable Annuity license; non-resident state Life/Health and Variable Annuity licensing for all non-resident states in which business will be conducted.
Securities exams and IAR appointment
  • Series 7 and 63 or equivalent, 24, 65 and/or 66 as required by applicable state law to become IAR with Principal Securities, Inc.'s RIA.
  • Refer to Principal Financial Network Licensing/Exam Policy for the time frame allowed to obtain the required licenses, appointments and pass exams.

Sr. Managing Director (above qualifications apply along with below additions):

  • 6+ years related work experience, including sales and a minimum of 5 years successful sales management.
Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)
  • $103,400 - $171,600 / year

Salary Details

The following salary ranges reflect market-specific compensation for this position across multiple job levels. Candidates will be evaluated to determine the appropriate job level based on their skills and experience.

  • Managing Director: $103,400- $139,700 / year
  • Sr. Managing Director: $127,600 - $171,600 / year

Heavy incentive component in addition to salary listed.

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
