Description

THE PORT OF LONG BEACH IS SEEKING A MANAGING DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING SERVICES (This is an at-will position)

Salary Range: $253,055 – 354,277

Role and Responsibilities

The Managing Director of Engineering Services is a key executive responsible for overseeing the Port’s assets and infrastructure, managing the Engineering Services Bureau, which handles design, construction, program management, project controls, maintenance, and surveying. The role requires leadership of a large team and management of significant engineering projects, with a bureau of 291 staff and an annual capital budget of $368 million.

Key Duties
  • Lead and oversee the six divisions of the Engineering Services Bureau.
  • Manage division directors, set goals, and ensure high-quality, customer-focused service.
  • Align the bureau’s mission with the Port’s strategic goals.
  • Advise senior leadership on development plans and infrastructure projects.
  • Oversee the Port’s development activities and capital improvement projects.
  • Develop infrastructure master plans and promote sustainable growth.
  • Represent the Port with government agencies and industry stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Valid PE license in California.
  • 15+ years of progressive engineering management experience.
  • 10+ years managing large, diverse teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree or advanced coursework in related disciplines.
  • Experience in goods movement industry and terminal development.
Additional Information

The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background, leadership skills, strategic thinking, and excellent communication abilities. Knowledge of project management, infrastructure design, and public speaking is essential. The role requires adaptability, innovation, and a collaborative approach.
