Job summary

Officeworks Inc. in Chicago seeks an accomplished Managing Director to oversee regional operations and drive the annual business plan and budget for the area.

You will lead leadership across divisions, ensuring profitability and strong external relationships with customers, vendors, and subcontractors. The role requires a track record in full P&L responsibility, strategic sales leadership, and a commitment to high ethical standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; or 8-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated track-record of meeting or exceeding goals
  • Successful track record of building strong customer relationships
  • Ability to work independently and achieve results.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressively responsible business experience, including full P&L responsibility and overall management of an operating business unit.
  • Knowledge in financial analysis, HR and business administration, legal and ethical practices, marketing, business development and sales
  • Ability to think strategically, synthesize complex data and develop innovative solutions.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to evaluate P&Ls and identify concerns

Responsibilities

  • Directs development and preparation of each Division’s annual business plan and budgeting, monitoring progress throughout the year.
  • Develop and execute a regional business plan with annual goals and objectives.
  • Operate the region within budget guidelines; manage travel and expenses; analyze monthly performance to ensure profitability.
  • Conduct monthly site visits and business reviews with General Managers to ensure policies are followed.
  • Review decisions on advertising, marketing, pricing and sales issues; stay aware of trends and backlogs to maximize profits.
  • Lead market penetration and sales growth; identify strategic alliances for growth and customer satisfaction.
  • Pursue and implement continuous process improvements across the business.
  • Ensure employees maintain high quality customer service and provide guidance to maximise satisfaction.
  • Monitor industry, market and technology trends to assess opportunities and risks.
  • Act as liaison for corporate programs; implement new programs and policies for long-term success.
  • Participate in industry events and marketing initiatives.

Job description

The Managing Director is responsible for overseeing the operations and success of all business units that fall within the defined region. Responsible for developing and achieving the yearly business plan & budget for the region. The Managing Director will provide leadership to ensure positive and profitable relationships with all external parties, including customers, vendors, and subcontractors. Manages the effective implementation and execution of processes and plans to increase the growth of the Region and achieve both short and long-term financial and operational objectives.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • In conjunction with management, directs the development and preparation of each Division’s annual business plan and budgeting process, monitors progress against business objectives throughout the year.
  • Develop and execute a regional business plan incorporating annual goals and objectives.
  • Operate the region within established budgetary guidelines. Manage annually assigned budget for travel and other expenses and be accountable for impact of expenses on sales. Analyzes monthly financial performance indicators and makes the necessary adjustments to ensure profitability of the region.
  • Conducts monthly site visits and business reviews with General Managers to ensure all company policies and procedures are being followed
  • Reviews and contributes to decisions on advertising, marketing, pricing and all other issues related to sales and marketing. Must be cognizant of current selling trends, as well as backlogs, to maximize profits.
  • Directs market penetration and sales growth of the Region, including new business development activities. Identify, analyze, and recommend strategic alliances to generate increased customer satisfaction, sales and financial growth.
  • Pursues and implements continuous process improvement throughout all areas of the business.
  • Ensures that all employees maintain a consistent focus on high quality customer service. Where necessary, provides guidance and support to maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Continuously evaluates industry, market and technology trends to assess the potential impact on business opportunities. Makes recommendations as necessary.
  • Acts as a liaison in the implementation and/or interpretation of corporate programs, policies and operating procedures. Initiates and champions new programs and policies necessary to sustain long-term success.
  • Participation in industry trade events and other marketing initiatives.
Supervisory / Management Requirements
  • Interviewing, hiring, and mentoring staff within assigned region
  • Holding 1:1 meetings with all direct reports on a routine basis
  • Providing constructive and timely performance evaluations of all direct reports
  • Handling discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy

Salary Range
  • $200,000 to $280,000 per year plus bonus
