Job description

Managing Counsel, Product

This is an exciting time to join Remote and make a personal difference in the global HR‑tech space as a Managing Counsel, Product (Please note, this is not a People Manager role). We are looking for a talented and eager lawyer, who is interested in helping with our team’s mission: to deliver pragmatic and innovative legal solutions for Remote’s products and stakeholders, while protecting Remote from unacceptable risk.

What you bring
  • Qualified lawyer with extensive experience in product counseling (jurisdiction‑agnostic; multiple bars a plus).
  • Product counsel experience in technology, with prior HR‑tech exposure (EOR/PEO/HRIS/Payroll) advising at scale across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Strong command of emerging AI frameworks (e.g., EU AI Act, UK approach, U.S. state/federal developments, Canada AIDA) and their interplay with data protection (GDPR/CCPA) and employment transparency rules.
  • In‑house experience is a bonus and preferred.
  • Startup experience is a bonus.
  • Tech passion: enthusiasm for tech and HR‑tech products.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Fluent in English (writing and speaking).
  • Tech‑savvy with Slack, Juro, Notion, Google Drive or equivalent.
  • Remote work experience is a plus, but not required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own HRIS and AI product counseling end‑to‑end, including AI impact assessments, model cards, and risk controls with Privacy/Security.
  • Draft and negotiate product terms and AI‑specific clauses as required (training/usage of data & metadata, output/IP ownership, acceptable use, transparency), in collaboration with the Commercial Legal team.
  • Proactively monitor new AI and tech regulations and translate those into concrete, actionables for product, design and engineering teams.
  • Manage external counsel on complex, multi‑jurisdictional issues; drive clear, practical outcomes.
  • Deliver targeted enablement (trainings or office hours).
  • Partner with Privacy & Security on DPIAs/TIAs, incident response, and vendor/LLM diligence.
  • Find solutions rather than simply escalating problems.
Bonus Points
  • Experience with AI/ML legal and compliance issues.
  • Shipped at least one AI feature in production and built the accompanying legal/governance framework.
  • Experience working remotely.
Practicals
  • Reports to: Managing Counsel, Commercial & Product.
  • Team: Legal.
  • Location: Anywhere in the World.
  • Start date: As soon as possible.
Benefits
  • Work from anywhere.
  • Flexible paid time off.
  • Flexible working hours (async).
  • 16 weeks paid parental leave.
  • Mental‑health support services.
  • Stock options.
  • Learning budget.
  • Home‑office budget & IT equipment.
  • Budget for local in‑person social events or co‑working spaces.

Annual salary range for this full‑time position: $66,300—$149,150 USD.
