Job summary

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a City Research Scientist to lead the Translational Epidemiology subunit within the WTCHR framework. The role focuses on building advanced data pipelines, real-time surveillance, and predictive analytics to inform public health actions.

You will supervise research staff, oversee grant deliverables, and collaborate with internal and external data stakeholders to improve health outcomes for New Yorkers.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in physical, biological, environmental science or public health.
• Doctoral degree with supervisory/research experience for Level II.
• Equivalent education/experience with master's and two years of relevant work may qualify.

Responsibilities

• Design and oversee translational epidemiology initiatives within the Translational Epidemiology subunit.
• Develop and integrate multi-source data pipelines for real-time public health surveillance.
• Apply advanced statistics, ML, and anomaly detection to identify emerging health threats.
• Quality assurance lead for data linkage with EHR, CMS, NY SPARCS, and related sources.
• Supervise research staff and interns/fellows as required.
