Job description

Job Summary:
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for managing small driver teams and/or non-traditional shifts (including nights and weekends). The role involves ensuring safe and timely freight movement, load assignment, and delivering excellent customer service. The employee will be trained to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and will oversee driver compliance and company policies. The position requires collaboration with internal and external contacts to plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with drivers and outside carriers to facilitate seamless carrier setup, reduce turnover, and enhance productivity.
  • Fill in for absent personnel and participate in projects aimed at optimizing fleet operations and profitability.
  • Train and orient drivers and employees, including system training for internal and third-party systems.
  • Maximize fleet efficiency and profitability by analyzing performance metrics and creating reports for customers, including face-to-face interactions.
  • Manage inventory, assets, and driver assignments to balance equipment in the market.
  • Perform administrative duties such as payroll, budget management, driver counseling, accident reviews, documentation, pay issue resolution, P&L analysis, invoicing, and reporting.
  • Oversee yard operations, including equipment inspections, repairs, and coordination with maintenance for scheduled services and safety issues.
  • Resolve service, routing, mechanical, and accessorial issues collaboratively with drivers, customers, and staff, including on-call support.
  • Maintain the company's safety culture through safety messages, briefings, training, reviews, and policy enforcement to ensure DOT and safety compliance.
  • Assign loads, plan routes, and monitor freight movements to ensure safety, timeliness, and customer satisfaction, adjusting for delays and environmental factors.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualification:

High School Diploma/GED, up to 4 years of related experience or training, and/or current enrollment in a degree program with up to 2 years of experience. Ability to work across multiple shifts including nights and weekends. Willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree plus 1 year of experience or equivalent education and training.

Additional Notes: This position is not eligible for employment-based sponsorship.

The starting pay range is $42,000 to $63,000, influenced by skills, education, experience, geography, and other factors. The role may include bonuses and incentives based on profitability and volume, according to company plans.

Educational requirements include GED or high school diploma; preferred degrees are in Business Administration or Business Communications. Work experience in management or transportation/logistics is preferred.
