Job summary

Invenergy is seeking a Thermal Asset Manager to safely maximize the profitability of its portfolio of thermal assets. The role requires coordinating with O&M, engineering, finance, and commercial teams to optimize performance, budgeting, and reporting.

Candidates should have 8+ years in a related field and a Bachelor’s in Engineering, with strong Excel and financial modeling skills. This position offers hybrid work in the Chicago area and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
• 8+ years in finance, FP&A, commercial management, or related fields.
• Operational/engineering exposure in thermal or energy sectors.
• Experience with NPV, IRR, and DCF models.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with site O&M and corporate staff to optimize thermal asset performance.
• Evaluate and improve operational performance with engineering teams.
• Participate in contract development with outside vendors and support negotiations.
• Lead dispute negotiations with contractual counterparts when needed.
• Develop annual budgets and perform periodic variance analyses.

• Assist in cash flow forecasting and other ad-hoc analyses with accounting, finance, and tax.

Job Description

**Position Overview**
The Thermal Asset Manager is responsible for a wide range of activities all directed toward the same goal: safely maximizing the profitability of Invenergy’s portfolio of operating thermal assets.

Responsibilities:

Operations:

• Coordinate with site-based and corporate O&M staff to optimize thermal asset performance, including major component repair and optimization of maintenance planning
• Evaluate and improve operational performance, including output, efficiency, and reliability, alongside engineering teams
• Participate in contract development with outside vendors, from soliciting quotes to supporting final contractnegotiation
• Lead dispute negotiations if they arise with contractual counterparts

Finance:

• Develop annual budgets and perform periodic variance analysesfor financial metrics such as EBITDA, distributions, etc.
• Provide input and review of the pro-forma financial models for generation assets
• Develop reports on generation asset performance for investors and lenders
• Assist in cash flow forecasting and management
• Perform financial analyses of aftermarket improvements, including profits, losses, and associated risks
• Develop other ad-hoc analyses as needed, coordinating with Accounting, Finance, Tax, etc.

Commercial:

• Provide input on optimizing the bidding and scheduling of assets in the market
• Support development and review commercial contracts and bids
• Collaborate with Commercial team on near-term and long-term power market strategy

Regulatory and compliance:

• Ensure compliance with the regulatory requirements and project agreements, including Power Purchase Agreements, Operating Agreements, Credit Agreements, and Operations and Maintenance Agreements

Required Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
• 8+ years of experience in a similar function and industry, including but not limited to finance, accounting, FP&A, commercial management, project management, and consulting in industries such as energy, utilities, construction, manufacturing and real estate required
• Operational and/or engineering experience in thermal or an adjacent energy sector (cogeneration plants, gas turbines, steam turbines, etc.)
• Experience with standard financial metrics and analyses (NPV, IRR, DCF models)
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Some travel required
• Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future

• Master’s Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, or Engineering

Base Pay

$124,000.00 - $160,000.00 USD Annual
Bonus: 25% - 40%

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education and skills.
