Job summary

You will collaborate with M&A, Market Research and Project Development teams, lead technical efforts across wind, solar, storage and hydro, and travel as needed to support projects and asset evaluations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience in project development, construction, or operations.
  • Experience in renewable generation (solar, storage, wind, hydro) preferred.
  • Strong leadership and cross-functional project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the life cycle of project development from origination to commercial operations.
  • Lead screening, design and optimization activities for wind, solar, storage and hydro projects across the United States.
  • Participate as a technical expert in M&A due diligence or lead team members in such activities.
  • Identify and hire consultants to run interconnection studies and analysis in key regions.
  • Participate in structuring and negotiating large construction contracts aligned with company objectives.
  • Manage independent engineers for asset evaluations for investment, refinance or accounting purposes.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with OEMs, EPC contractors and others supporting development and technology focus.
  • Contribute to business cases for projects selected for investment and present findings.
  • Establish QA/QC processes to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Demonstrate alignment with health, safety and environment values; travel as needed.

Manager Technical Services

Work location: Queensbury, NY or Potsdam, NY

The Manager, Technical Services will support a wide array of business, project development and construction activities across our United States Platform. The Manager, Technical Services will have accountability for supporting transmission/interconnection, engineering and design, as well as permitting and environmental functions. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Operations team in North America and will work collaboratively with the Mergers & Acquisition, Market Research and Project Development teams.

Responsibilities
  • Support the entire life cycle of project development from origination to commercial operations;
  • Lead project screening, selection, design and optimization activities for wind, solar, storage and hydro projects across the United States;
  • Directly participate as lead technical expert and/or assign team members as participants in M&A due diligence processes;
  • Identify and hire consultants as applicable to run interconnection studies and analysis in key regions to support interconnection strategy.
  • Participate on the structuring and negotiation of large construction contracts in line with Company principles, strategic objectives and risk profile
  • Manage independent Engineers in performing asset evaluations for investment, refinance or accounting purposes.
  • Support the Business in developing and maintaining key relationships with OEM’s, EPC contractors and others supporting our development and technological focus;
  • Participate as a key Operations member in preparing and presenting business cases for projects that are selected for investment;
  • Establish appropriate QA/QC processes to ensure high quality of deliverables;
  • Demonstrate a strong alignment with corporate values, including health, safety and environment. Integrating into and becoming a key member of the US Operations team driving increased value within the existing portfolio and delivering accretive profit improvement opportunities
  • Ability to travel and work remotely as needed

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical engineering;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant engineering experience in project development, construction or operations;
  • Relevant renewable generation industry experience, in particular, solar, storage, wind and hydro generation technologies, is strongly preferred;
  • Work ethic highlighted by willingness to "roll up the sleeves" to get into the details required to get the job done;
  • Proven ability to lead and project manage cross-functional, dispersed teams to support key commercial, diligence and other transaction initiatives;
  • Proven experience in negotiation & management abilities;
  • Excellent influence and communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, peers, partners and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills and team-building capabilities
  • Demonstrated safe work habits and record
  • Demonstrated experience and ability in managing and successful delivery of multiple projects, setting expectations and managing results
  • Intimate knowledge of related industry standards, and knowledge of state / provincial and federal environmental and construction regulations.
  • Knowledge of wholesale energy market structures and design, regulations, economics, and experience dealing with both ISO/RTO and IOU.
  • Knowledge of Project Finance is a plus.
Salary

$140,000-$170,000 (commensurate with experience)

Bonus

Eligible for a 15% Variable Bonus program.
