Job summary

AES Corporation invites applications for the Clean Energy Tax Manager of Reporting and Analytics. The role focuses on US federal/state tax compliance, planning analytics, and transaction support within the Clean Energy portfolio.

You will work with tax and non-tax colleagues across the organization and its owners. Based in Arlington, VA, the position reports to the Senior Manager, US Tax Reporting & Analytics and offers exposure to investor-facing information, budgeting, and incentive programs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation and review of US federal/state tax compliance (ASC740).
  • Assist with technical research and quantitative analysis for tax planning projects.
  • Support quarterly forecasting, budgeting, and incentives for the Clean Energy business.
  • Support transaction reviews and documentation, including tax areas and financial models.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff within US Tax Team.

The Clean Energy Tax Manager of Reporting and Analytics role brings together US federal and state compliance and tax planning analytics for its operational and growth portfolio. The ideal candidate is seeking a dynamic professional opportunity at the crossroads of tax compliance, data analytics and transaction support. The position is primarily responsible for the management and review of the US federal and state income tax compliance for the Clean Energy renewable energy development and operational businesses. This role will actively engage in and support analysing data that is of significant importance to the business and its owners. The position also supports tax planning and business transactions, applying both federal and state tax technical and income tax accounting. Successful candidates will demonstrate an ability to think critically, take initiative, and work exceptionally well with tax and non‑tax colleagues at all levels within the organization and with its owners. The position reports to the Senior Manager, US Tax Reporting & Analytics and will partner closely with other tax professionals of its owners.

Primary Position Responsibilities
  • Manage the preparation and review of the Clean Energy US federal and state tax compliance process, provide quarterly information for investors and manage other information in accordance with ASC740.
  • Assist with technical research and quantitative analysis for business and tax planning projects that optimise financial and cash taxes on existing and prospective company investments and consider effects on the business and its owners.
  • Support the quarterly forecasting and annual budgeting process, state and local clean energy grants and incentives, disallowed business interest, valuation allowance, outside basis, and uncertain tax positions of the Clean Energy business provided to its investors.
  • Support transaction review and documentation processes, including various federal, state and local tax areas, including the review of financial models.
  • Supervise and support the development of one direct report and serve as a mentor to more junior talent across the US Business Tax Team.
Qualifications of Ideal Candidates
  • A driven curiosity to learn and apply rapidly evolving and complex tax technical concepts with a business first mindset.
  • Strong partnership tax technical and compliance expertise, and interest to further develop, through supporting M&A and renewable investment transactions in close partnership with business and tax peers, state tax exposure a plus.
  • Experience with maintaining partner tax capital accounts, taxable income, outside tax basis and adjustments such as section 704(c) and section 743, a plus.
  • Strong management skills necessary to assure that all federal and state compliance is accurate and timely filed.
  • Experience managing an outsource compliance provider and in‑house team a plus.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skill necessary to assure that investor needs are met in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Comfort coordinating and managing across tax teams in a shared knowledge environment, leveraging in‑house tax expertise and influencing the quality and timing of inputs required from internal partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgement over complex issues in a fast‑paced environment; comfort working with multiple simultaneous scenarios to drive optimised financial and cash tax outcomes.
  • Exceptional communication skills; comfort articulating complex tax issues to management and non‑tax audiences with minimal preparation.
  • Experience reviewing M&A financial models; familiarity with tax equity Hypothetical Liquidation at Book Value (HLBV) computations and with advanced Excel skills, Power BI, and visualisations a plus.
  • Exceptional self and project management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage evolving priorities in a dynamic work environment and willingness to step into a “do‑er role” when needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or tax, Master’s degree / CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience working on complex tax issues with a national accounting firm or a multi‑national corporate tax department.

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $134,000 and $168,300/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes annual bonus.
