Job summary

AM General seeks an experienced SCM procurement professional to lead proposal development, supplier engagement, and contract management for government-related programs. You will coordinate with engineering, pricing, and contracts to ensure compliant and competitive bids, while driving cost reductions and supplier performance.

Role requires 5+ years in military/procurement environments, strong SAP/Ariba experience, and ability to lead cross-functional teams in a dynamic aerospace/defense setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of professional military purchasing, quality, and program management experience/automotive NPD through full-rate production.
  • 3+ years' employee development, commodity management, and manufacturing/development operations experience.
  • Working knowledge of SAP and other tools (SharePoint, Teamcenter).
  • Experience with cross-functional teams and system integration is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process proposals for new contracts, issue RFQs, and negotiate pricing, quantities, and delivery with suppliers.
  • Create and manage subcontracts for AFTC spare parts and services, including urgent Government Depot requirements.
  • Lead SCM activities to ensure timely processing of proposals, POs, and contracts and identify suppliers.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Process proposals for new contracts by issuing RFQs and drawing packages, developing bills of material when needed, and negotiating pricing, quantities, and delivery with supplier partners
  • Create and manage subcontracts for AFTC spare parts and services, including expediting urgent Government Depot and Warfighter requirements
  • Lead and supervise AFTC SCM activities to ensure timely, efficient processing of proposals, purchase orders, and contracts. Identify and develop competitive sources of supply
  • Manage US Government audits related to AFTC procurement
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Materials, Pricing, Contracts, MMC, PTAP, and TEC to support new business pursuits. Maintain current cost data in SAP and ensure competitive bid pricing
  • Program manage and lead day‑to‑day operations for Business Unit groups, serving as the interface between SCM and senior management
  • Perform and document complex cost and price analysis to establish fair and reasonable pricing consistent with Government and FAR requirements
  • Ensure contract files meet all Government/Customer requirements and support approved Cost Estimating and Purchasing Systems
  • Analyze and communicate supplier and cost data within a FAR‑governed environment
  • Effectively participate in and occasionally lead Integrated Product Teams (IPTs)
  • Lead SCM system integration efforts and drive continuous improvement to maintain compliance with AM General’s approved purchasing system
  • Motivate and coach team members, communicating goals, objectives, and KPIs aligned with the AM General strategic plan
  • Drive team performance by managing resources effectively and leveraging team strengths
  • Consistently promote high professional standards through personal example
  • Ensure full adherence to company policies and guidelines
  • Drive BoM cost reductions and strategic supplier strategies, including partnerships, teaming, and development agreements
  • Collaborate with buyers and quality teams to manage strategic supplier approvals, evaluate supplier performance, and ensure on‑time delivery to build teams
  • Champion Design‑to‑Cost, Design‑for‑Manufacturing, and Make/Buy initiatives and track associated results
  • Conduct benchmarking to identify best practices in products, processes, and supply chain strategy
  • Partner with production supply chain on sourcing and strategic initiatives
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or equivalent required (with CPSM/CPM, and/or MBA preferred)
  • 5+ years of professional military purchasing, quality, and program management experience/automotive new-product development through full-rate production
  • 3+ years employee development experience, as well as Commodity Management experience and manufacturing / development operations experience
  • Working knowledge of SAP and other tools such as SharePoint and Teamcenter
  • SAP Ariba experience a plus
  • Demonstrated performance in working with and leading cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated performance in system integration and software implementation
  • Development, management and tracking of suppliers, including small businesses
  • Professional Certification (CPSM and/or CPSD) by the Institute of Supply Management is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications (written and oral) skills and the ability to lead groups
  • Analytical thinking, negotiating, and problem-solving skills required
  • Strong skills required in communication, presentation, analysis, team rapport with the ability to be flexible and adapt to change
  • Technical understanding of main vehicle components
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, and video conferencing programs
PHYSICAL EFFORT
  • Sight: must be able to regularly read computer screen, reports, and various documents with detail and clarity to accomplish work tasks in a safe and efficient manner, including regular use of adequate close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • Hearing: must be able to regularly hear well enough to communicate
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Physical Location: This position operates between an office and manufacturing plant environment and is often assigned to a specific shift or hours. The Employee must be able to perform job functions in an environment with varying difficult work conditions such as extreme cold, heat, inclement weather, at heights, and/or while exposed to constant/intermittent loud noises
  • Teamwork: This position will work with others to ensure efficiency in the workplace
  • Listening Skills: This position will need to understand how to use machinery properly and safely to prevent accidents and ensure all tasks are completed accurately
  • Ability to follow instructions: Managers assign tasks and responsibilities, which vary; this position should be able to follow instructions competently
  • Methodical approach: Production lines follow a set process, so this position needs a methodical approach to ensure all tasks are completed in the correct order for a smooth-running production line
  • Concentration: This position may perform the same or similar tasks repeatedly, so a strong level of concentration when carrying out these tasks is important for quality control purposes. This role is often fast paced, so being able to maintain focus at all times is important
