Job summary

BWH Hotels in Phoenix is seeking a senior design leader to drive design initiatives, provide technical leadership to the design team, and align with organizational goals.

You will mentor staff, set design standards, manage budgets, collaborate with stakeholders, and oversee space planning and construction drawings while upholding the company's standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design, or related field; 6+ years in commercial/industrial/institutional design with supervisory experience.
• Strong budgeting and financial principles knowledge.
• Ability to develop and implement design programs aligned with strategic goals.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and implement design programs and initiatives supporting member development and organizational objectives.
• Provide technical and operational guidance to design staff, ensuring high-quality outcomes.
• Establish and maintain departmental design standards, policies, and tools.
• Assess design activities and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external partners, and advisory boards to promote design excellence.
• Develop and execute hiring, training, and retention strategies for design staff.
• Manage departmental resources and coordinate with external vendors as needed.
• Educate members and staff on design services and standards through training and communication programs.
• Oversee development of design deliverables, including sketches, specifications, space planning, and construction drawings.

Job Purpose

Leads design initiatives that support member development objectives and promote design excellence. Preferred Experience and Education

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 6 years of professional experience in commercial, industrial, or institutional design, including supervisory or management responsibilities.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of financial and budgeting principles.
• Understanding of design standards and technical specifications.
• Ability to develop and implement design programs aligned with strategic goals.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Work Location

• This is a hybrid position, requiring onsite presence Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at our Headquarters location, with the option to work remote on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This hybrid model fosters intentional collaboration, teamwork, connection, and productivity, while still providing flexibility and work life balance.
