Job summary

Universal Health Services (UHS) through its Streamwood facility is seeking a Senior De-Escalation Specialist/Staff Development Manager to lead the de-escalation team and guide clinical staff in crisis intervention. The role includes mentoring, supervising, and coordinating CPI education to ensure safe, compassionate care.

The position focuses on supervising the crisis response process, assessing needs, and ensuring best-practice interventions within the therapeutic milieu across Lifespan

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s preferred.
  • 2+ years in behavioral health with crisis intervention experience required.
  • 3–5 years experience in a similar role preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the de-escalation specialist team and supervise staff.
  • Provide direct therapeutic care to consumers in psychiatric crisis.
  • Mentor and coach clinical staff as part of the mentoring program.
  • Lead behavioral interventions with consumers in crisis; assess situations and determine intervention level.
  • Ensure CPI techniques are correctly applied and debrief staff after interventions.

Responsibilities

SBHS is looking for an experienced Senior De-Escalation Specialist/Staff Development Manager to join our dynamic team. The senior de-escalation specialist will oversee the de-escalation specialist team, provide supervision and assist the specialists in total consumer care through implementation of appropriate therapeutic approaches within the therapeutic milieu. The de-escalation specialist will provide direct therapeutic care to all consumers throughout the lifespan who are in psychiatric crisis to intervene and stabilize behaviors. The senior de-escalation specialist will also oversee CPI instructors at our facility to assure they are applying competent education on the skills. This role is responsible for mentoring and coaching clinical staff as part of the mentoring program. T he senior de-escalation specialist is to report to and lead behavioral interventions with consumers in crisis, assess crisis situations and determines the appropriate level of intervention required, ensure appropriate CPI techniques are being used, and debrief with staff after interventions.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, bachelor's preferred. A minimum of two (2) years experience in a behavioral health care facility, with direct experience in crisis intervention and mentoring skills REQUIRED. 3-5 years experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification

Verbal De-Escalation Training and Milieu Management Training REQUIRED.
