Job summary

OEC is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Product Engineering team responsible for search functionality. You will drive delivery, set architectural direction, coach engineers, and ensure a scalable product vision.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in software development, 2+ years in management, and a strong track record with Agile practices and cross-functional collaboration.

Domestic travel once per year and periodic virtual meetings are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Product Engineering team to deliver search functionality with high quality and reliability.
  • Set technical roadmaps, establish coding standards, and monitor KPIs.
  • Coach, develop, and retain engineers; remove roadblocks.
  • Collaborate with product managers and architects on priorities and architecture.
  • Oversee full SDLC in an Agile/CI/CD environment.
  • Support budgeting and resource planning.
  • Domestic travel once per year.
  • Willingness to attend virtual meetings with camera on.

Job Summary/Objective

Provides leadership and guidance to the Product Engineering team responsible for search functionality.

Key Responsibilities & Duties (essential To The Job)
  • Manages and leads an assigned Product Engineering team to accomplish objectives by setting individual and team goals and expectations. Provides ongoing coaching and feedback on performance, and ensures timely completion of deliverables. Helps team members with solving for complex or escalated issues, and removes roadblocks as needed.
  • Encourages professional development and skill advancement, and supports the upward mobility of team members.
  • Promotes a collaborative, inclusive culture that supports autonomy, ownership, and innovation.
  • Oversees the full software development lifecycle using best practices in agile, CI/CD, and automation.
  • Establishes engineering standards, coding practices, and operational excellence frameworks. Monitors engineering KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) — quality, velocity, reliability — to improve overall team performance.
  • Optimizes resource allocation, workflow efficiency, and delivery predictability.
  • Partners with product managers and architects to define technical roadmaps and engineering priorities.
  • Ensures timely, high-quality delivery of features aligned with business and customer needs.
  • Removes technical blockers and guides architectural decisions to support a scalable product vision.
  • Recruits, hires, and onboards new team members. Ensures newly hired employees have the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to be successful at OEC.
  • Partners with department leadership to help manage business expenses aligned with the budget. Assists with developing budget recommendations, and participates in forecasting and budgeting activities as requested.
Education

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required, with a focus in Computer Science or related discipline. In the absence of a degree, equivalent work experience directly related to the key responsibilities of the role will be considered as a substitute for the degree.

Experience, Skills And Key Competencies

At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in software engineering and development, plus at least 2 years of prior management experience with responsibility for leading direct reports.

  • Ability to lead diverse teams and create an engaging and positive culture that motivates and empowers others to do great work.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and can tailor messaging to a specific audience or call to action.
  • Ability to manage and lead at a tactical level with direct reports, and at a strategic level with OEC leadership.
  • Sound business judgement and strong critical thinking skills, to solve for a variety of business challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and can effectively promote teamwork and collaboration.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work, and can support direct reports with adjusting to shifts in priorities as the needs of the business change.
  • A proactive and results-oriented workstyle to ensure team objectives and deliverables are met.
Special Position Requirements
  • Domestic travel, once per year.
  • Willing and able to attend virtual meetings with the laptop camera on.
