Job summary

Sony's Engagement Platform Services (SEPS) seeks a Manager, Software Engineering to lead a high-performing team responsible for integration and deployment of the platform across Sony's operating companies.

You will drive full-stack development, foster a collaborative culture, align projects with business goals, and scale engineering excellence while partnering with global product and business teams.

Qualifications

  • At least 6 years of software development experience.
  • At least 2 years of people management experience managing multiple teams.
  • Ability to mentor and empower teams including other people managers.
  • Proven leadership building, maintaining, and deploying internal apps and highly available services.
  • Strong communication, cross-group collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with agile development practices emphasizing continuous improvement.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Java or Kotlin and delivering microservices.
  • Experience with React or React Native is a plus.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Engagement Platform Engineering, the Manager, Software Engineering will lead a high-performing team of engineers responsible for the integration and deployment of Sony's Engagement Platform across multiple business units. This platform, built on core foundational technologies from Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and other internal groups, delivers shared capabilities in digital commerce, personalization, identity and account management, and developer enablement.

The Manager, Software Engineering will oversee full-stack development efforts, fostering a productive and collaborative engineering environment. This role plays a key part in scaling team capabilities and engineering excellence, while ensuring seamless platform integration across Sony Electronics, Sony Pictures, Sony Sports, and other Sony operating companies. The position requires close collaboration with global stakeholders, including business users, product managers, and cross-functional technical teams.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Foster a strong, inclusive, and collaborative engineering culture that emphasizes innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Drive the successful delivery of multiple cross-platform projects by guiding teams in effective estimation, planning, and iterative value delivery.
  • Collaborate effectively across global business units and product teams , navigating time zone differences to ensure alignment and progress.
  • Execute and iterate on the team's vision, strategy, and roadmap , ensuring initiatives remain focused, achievable, and value-driven .
  • Champion change and continuous improvement , identifying and implementing opportunities to enhance team performance, processes, and outcomes.
  • Operate with autonomy and ownership in a large, distributed environment, consistently delivering results while managing complexity and ambiguity.
  • Honesty, trustworthiness and ethical conduct are material requirements for the responsibilities outlined above
QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION
  • Overall experience of at least 6 years in the software development industry
  • At least 2 years of people management experience, with experience managing multiple teams or one larger team
  • Able to manage, mentor, and empower teams, including other people managers
  • Proven leadership skills and a passion for building, maintaining , and deploying both internal business applications and highly available services
  • Strong communication , cross-group collaboration, and interpersonal skills. The ability to flex communication style to work with business and non-technical users in addition to engineers
  • Ability to balance priorities across multiple projects.
  • Ability to advise and influence technical discussions and decisions .
  • Experience with agile development practices emphasizing continuous improvement .
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Java, Kotlin, or similar technologies, and delivering microservices
  • Prior experience with one or more of the following technologies or areas is a plus: React, React Native
