Manager, Software Development

Location: Exton, PA - Hybrid or In-office

Position Summary

We are seeking a Manager, Software Development, to lead the evolution of Bentley's Civil Engineering software portfolio. In this role, you will manage a globally distributed team of developers and oversee day-to-day operations, driving technical excellence, organizational transformation, and strategic impact. You will collaborate closely with senior leadership to implement processes, guide engineering investment decisions, and deliver high-quality, reliable solutions.

Responsibilities

Lead and Inspire

• Manage, mentor, and develop a global software engineering team.
• Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration.
• Drive delivery of highly available, scalable, and performant cloud services.

Drive Transformation

• Champion the transition to an Empowered Teams organizational model.
• Promote modern engineering practices, tools, and workflows to improve productivity and quality.

Own Delivery Excellence

• Ensure high standards for code quality, maintainability, testing, and overall product stability.
• Oversee release readiness, defect management, and continuous improvement of engineering processes.

Strategic Decision-Making

• Use data, telemetry, customer feedback, and engineering insight to guide product strategies, prioritize engineering investments, and optimize development efficiency and team focus.

Collaborate Across Functions

• Partner with Product Management, UX, Quality Engineering, and leadership to align on product strategy and delivery goals.
• Support cross-functional coordination to ensure the success of major initiatives.

Build Talent

• Recruit, coach, and develop high-performing engineering talent.
• Encourage continuous learning, skill development, and technical growth within the team.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent industry experience with 3+ years of technical experience.
• Proven leadership experience managing globally distributed software teams with 2+ years of experience.
• Strong communication, strategic thinking, and collaborative leadership skills.
• High intellectual curiosity and adaptability to evolving tools, technologies, and industry trends.
• A coaching-oriented mindset with a passion for team and individual development.
• This role requires minimal travel.
• Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer (or any other physical requirements (https://www.bls.gov/ors/factsheet/visual-overview-of-physical-demands.htm)).
