Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; associate degree preferred.
  • At least six years of experience in rail transportation.
  • At least two years in a training supervisor or manager level role.
  • Current Locomotive Engineer certification.
  • Knowledge of FRA rules and regulations.
  • Willingness to travel and provide remote site support within the region.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, team-building, and leadership skills.
  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with FRA, DOT, and FMCSA on regional training programs and applications.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing training for all crafts within the region, including safety and operating rules.
  • Be responsible for certification and recertification of locomotive engineers.
  • Periodically ride trains to monitor performance of engineers, conductors, and brakemen; respond to inquiries regarding policies and programs.
  • Conduct efficiency testing to determine training effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in implementing training and regulatory compliance procedures for the operations department.
  • Maintain up-to-date training and regulatory compliance manuals covering all regional railroad properties.
  • Organize and maintain file system for training and compliance records.
  • Assure constant compliance with FRA, DOT, and FMCSA regulations.
  • Assist with agency inspections and facilitate inspections.
  • Interface with other departments within the region and G&W to ensure efficient training and compliance activities.
  • Interact with federal, state, and local agencies when necessary.
  • Direct and manage the organization’s training resources for maximum efficiency.
  • Promote safety culture through leadership.
  • Manage other projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Description

SUMMARY:
The person in this position provides support to operating railroads within the designated region for the purpose of facilitating and overseeing training and regulatory compliance activities to include education and training of existing and future employees. He or she performs duties and carries out responsibilities according to the procedures and compliance guidelines as prescribed and required by the FRA, DOT, FMCSA, and company policy. He or she proactively supports the region’s training and compliance goals, objectives, and strategies

RESPONSIBILITIES

REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • High level of analytical problem-solving ability
  • Excellent communication, team building, and leadership skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR)
  • Willingness to travel and provide remote site support within the region
  • Flexibility to assume assignments with little or no notice and outside normal work hours
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS
  • High school diploma or GED; associate degree preferred
  • At least six years of experience in the rail transportation industry
  • At least two years in a training supervisor or manager level role
  • Current Locomotive Engineer certification
  • Knowledge of FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) rules and regulations
