Universal Orlando Resort emphasizes in-person collaboration, with many roles requiring a minimum of three days per week onsite, and some roles full-time on-site. Limited remote opportunities may be available in specific departments.

Job Summary:

Be a Safety Control System expert with knowledge of controls, electrical schematics, software, and UO’s safety policies. Provide safety signoff for Venue systems, equipment, components, ECNs, and TDs in compliance with UO Engineering Guidelines. Act as a liaison between Operations and Technical Services to address safety issues, mitigate risks, and ensure corrective actions. Support downtime recovery by technical problem identification, System Risk Assessment, and FMEA, ensuring lessons learned are communicated.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership enforcing safety policies, standards, and regulations for hardware and software control systems across the company.
  • Review and give feedback on design standards for new projects.
  • Participate in control equipment development for venues, recommending specifications, layout, maintainability, and security.
  • Provide safety signoff for controls/software systems, equipment, ECNs, and TDs per guidelines.
  • Assist in developing and revising department policies related to safety and configuration control.
  • Serve as Safety Control System expert for new projects, liaising between departments to address safety issues.
  • Participate in hardware/software design from concept to opening, providing safety insights.
  • Oversee controls team management, including engineers and technicians, vendors, and contractors.
  • Review safety design documents for new venues.
  • Support the commissioning and opening of new or modified venues.
  • Collaborate across departments to develop software, hardware, and controls, ensuring safety standards are met and properly archived.
  • Coordinate engineering activities, monitor project status, and evaluate vendor products.
  • Mentor controls and software engineers, recommending training for growth.
  • Adhere to Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related fields.
  • Desired: Master’s Degree or equivalent experience.
Experience:
  • 10+ years in electrical/control system design and installation, with theme park environment experience preferred.
  • 3+ years as Safety Controls Engineer, with proven safety system review and approval experience.
  • Experience with safety control equipment, risk assessments, and system safety approvals.
Certifications:
  • PLC programming, maintenance, troubleshooting.
  • AC/DC Drives configuration and troubleshooting.
  • TUV - Functional Safety Engineer or Machine Safety Expert certification.
  • Cisco networking certifications preferred.
Additional Information:
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of safety standards (ISO, IEC, UL, NEC, ASTM).
  • Experience with servo controls, Allen Bradley PLC systems, and safety PLCs like Siemens.
  • Proficiency in software platforms such as RSLogix, Studio 5000, and others.
  • Experience in ride and show control systems in theme parks.
