The James Beard Foundation’s Impact Department helps the independent restaurant industry reach new standards around equity, sustainability, and workplace practices to ensure that all involved in its supply chain can thrive. We aim to turn independent restaurant jobs into long and healthy careers, expand access to leadership, visibility, financial stability, and capital, and leverage the power of chefs for climate change mitigation. Our mission is realized through research, training programs, policy advocacy, and harnessing chefs' influence for change.

The Manager, Research and Insights is a new, key position as the Foundation moves to ground all its programs in research and provide vital data on the challenges and opportunities within the independent restaurant industry. This role is an integral part of the JBF Impact Department, collaborating with the JBF Institute and Network teams, as well as working with the Senior Director of Database Systems, Marketing/Communications, Development, and Sponsorship departments, along with external stakeholders and partners.

Reporting to the Vice President of Impact, the Research and Insights Manager will handle data reporting and outcome tracking, prepare materials for board and other presentations, administer program surveys, collaborate with research partners, develop white papers and reports, manage the department’s newsletter, and work with Development and Sponsorship teams to support research funding.

Responsibilities:

  • Track and report on performance metrics for the Impact department, including survey management and data analysis.
  • Create data reports for outcomes and updates, including board presentations.
  • Develop data visualizations for department PowerPoint presentations.
  • Manage research processes aligned with the JBF research agenda.
  • Coordinate research partnerships.
  • Design and deploy surveys for each program in a timely manner.
  • Lead the departmental newsletter.
  • Monitor industry reports and update research trackers.
  • Oversee training program updates and pedagogical trackers.
  • Collaborate with Development and Sponsorship teams to provide data support.
  • Coordinate with Marketing and Communications on website updates, collateral, email campaigns, and digital content.
  • Implement team procedures effectively.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.

Requirements:

To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate:

  • At least 5 years of experience in hospitality-related research projects.
  • Proven ability in data and outcome tracking, data visualization.
  • Strong interest in research and data visualization tools.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a conscientious work ethic.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work efficiently independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in planning and organizing projects and events.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and proactive approach.
  • Strong initiative and a drive for success.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (PowerPoint), Salesforce, Monday, and Tableau.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Willingness to work within changing priorities with enthusiasm.
