Job summary

Sierra Pacific Industries, a large, family-owned lumber and millwork company based in Northern California, is seeking a seasoned Quality Assurance Manager. This role oversees QA/QC across multiple locations, audits processes, and coaches mill leadership to improve profitability while ensuring products meet grade specs and customer expectations.

The position is not remote and is based from our Anderson, California headquarters.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in lumber quality control, prefer scanners-based optimization.
  • 2 years supervisory experience in wood products or manufacturing.
  • Certified grader in Commons, Shop, Select, or all NGR grades.
  • Familiarity with optimization technology is preferred.
  • Experience with WWPA Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Understand grading association rule books and how to apply them.

Responsibilities

  • Manage lumber quality, grade, and recovery for 14 sawmill locations across CA, OR, WA.
  • Coach mill management teams in best practices to improve profitability and meet specs.
  • Ensure safe workplace practices and promote safety awareness across sites.
  • Train personnel on best practices to maximize lumber value and equipment uptime.
  • Audit manufacturing processes, identify nonconformances, and drive corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with mill management, sales teams, and inspectors from grading agencies.

Seeking highly experienced Quality Assurance Manager to manage quality assurance and quality control measures at lumber manufacturing locations across California, Oregon, and Washington. This position is responsible for inspecting materials, auditing manufacturing processes, and coaching mill management teams in best practices to improve profitability. Requires honest and ethical conduct, fostering respectful relationships, and ensuring products meet both grade specifications and customer satisfaction. This position is not remote and is based from our main office in Anderson, California.

About the Position
  • Manage lumber and grade recovery and optimization programs for 14 sawmill locations across California, Oregon, and Washington
  • Work closely with local management teams to improve profitability of mills, and to ensure products meet both grade specification and customer requirements
  • Assure safe workplace practices are followed and promote safety awareness through leading by example
  • Continually train best practices to maintain and optimize equipment to maximize lumber values, grade, and recovery
  • Audit various manufacturing processes to internal specifications. Identify nonconformance, assist with root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Supervisors and Managers across the Company
  • Work closely with mill management and sales teams on process improvements, new product development, and customer feedback issues
  • Effectively and collaboratively work with inspectors from grading agencies
  • Manage lumber quality and grade to maximize value through lumber graders and optimizing scanners
  • Identify, communicate, and troubleshoot production, quality, and grade issues
  • This position requires frequent travel to sawmill locations across California, Oregon, and Washington
Qualifications
  • 5+ years’ experience in lumber quality control using optimizing scanners preferred
  • 2 years’ supervisory experience in wood products or other manufacturing environment
  • Certified grader in any of the following categories: Commons, Shop, Select, and all NGR grades
  • High degree of knowledge and experience working with optimization technology preferred
  • Experience working with WWPA Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Full understanding of grading association rule book
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a crew
  • Proven commitment to safety and Company policy
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities under demanding circumstances
  • Proficient in documentation, workflow, math computation, and computer technology
