Job summary

Sierra Pacific Industries seeks a Log Yard Supervisor to maintain log inventory, oversee log yard equipment operation and maintenance, and collaborate with leadership to optimize productivity. You will lead the crew, enforce safety protocols, and coordinate scheduling, attendance, and training.

Qualifications

  • 2 years’ lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • 5 years’ experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment, preference for mechanical/shop experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a crew.
  • Knowledge of operating various types of equipment.
  • Understand machinery operations with knowledge to address preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Proven commitment to safety and Company policy.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities under demanding circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain quality of log inventory, rotation, sorting, and the efficiency of log flow to meet sawmill demands.
  • Manage the operation, maintenance, and service of log yard equipment, rolling stock, and log yard area.
  • Collaborate with Mill Manager, Superintendent, and supervisors to optimize productivity and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Assure safe workplace practices and promote safety awareness.
  • Analyze downtime and orchestrate solutions to reduce it.
  • Maintain documentation for department operations, disciplinary actions, Work Comp, attendance, etc.
  • Understand and comply with regulations such as OSHA, wage/hour, and environmental.
  • Supervise, train, direct, and coordinate work of the department’s crew.
  • Manage crew work time and duties during production, breakdowns, and emergencies.
  • Manage scheduled time off, unexpected absences, and modified duty of crew.
  • Participate in interviews and selection of new hires.
  • Recognize and participate in crew commendation, corrective, disciplinary, and discharge actions.

About the Position
