Job summary

Barry Callebaut Group is seeking a Site Quality Manager to oversee the QA program, ensuring compliance with BC QMS, GFSI, and regulatory standards at the American Canyon site. You will lead the QA team, manage audits, CAPA cycles, and drive continuous improvements across quality, food safety and hygiene.

You will collaborate with operations, R&D and sales to support new product transfers and drive a culture of safety and quality with a relentless focus on preventing non-conformities.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in chemistry, Biology, Microbiology or Food Science, or engineering degree with 7–10+ years in food quality assurance.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in food safety including formal HACCP training.
  • Formal training in Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards, preferably FSSC22000.
  • Knowledgeable in MS Office Suite, SAP Systems and other manufacturing applications.
  • Strong written & verbal communication, analytical ability, leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Solid knowledge of HACCP, GMP, Pathogen Environmental Monitoring and Facility/Equipment Design.

Responsibilities

  • Develop their team and build capability within the plant to ensure high performance across Quality, Food Safety and Hygiene metrics.
  • Manage audits, visits and inspections from Customers, Certification bodies, Regulatory agencies or corporate oversight at the plant.
  • Oversee corrective and preventative (CAPA) actions from audits and daily management system.
  • Provide support to resolve customer complaints, complete RCA cycles and ensure CAPA efficiency.
  • Lead food safety, ensure the food safety plan is properly implemented and complied with.
  • Work with operations, R&D and sales to support product transfers and site transfers.
  • Establish and document sanitation standards and ensure compliance.
  • Oversee local laboratory equipment and QC material inventories.
  • Ensure timely decisions on non-conformities or quality issues.
  • Drive corrective actions for out of spec materials and perform RCA to identify root cause.
  • Lead the issue management team per Global guidelines.
  • Ensure DMS is used and documents are up-to-date.
  • Ensure product batches are released only after reviews.
  • Develop a site quality masterplan and CAPEX planning.
  • Identify food safety investments and CAPEX requirements to improve performance.
  • Manage QA team planning: budget and capex.

The Site Quality Manager will be located on site in American Canyon,CA.

The Site Quality Manager is responsible to plan, implement and manage the Quality Assurance Program to ensure compliance to BC quality management system (QMS), Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard requirements and all customer and local regulatory requirements.

Site Quality Manager contributes to and nurtures a culture of “Safety, Food safety first and Quality Always” mindset across all teams and leaders on the site. She/he/they have the responsibility to act and speak up when deviations cannot be solved locally.

The Quality Manager has the drive to constantly seek improvements through lean principles and people capabilities development, towards achieving best in class performance.

Key Responsiblities Include
  • Develop their team and build capability within the plant to ensure high performance across all Quality, Food Safety and Hygiene metrics.
  • Manage audits, visits and inspections from Customers, Certification bodies, Regulatory agencies or corporate oversite at the plant.
  • Oversee the corrective and preventative (CAPA) actions coming from internal or external audits, and the plant daily management system
  • Provide support to resolve customer complaints, complete RCA cycles and ensure CAPA efficiency
  • Lead food safety, ensure the food safety plan is properly implemented and complied with
  • Work closely with the operations team, R&D and sales to support effective and efficient new product or site to site product transfers
  • Establish and document standards for sanitation procedures while ensuring compliance
  • Oversee local laboratory equipment and quality control material supply inventories
  • Ensure appropriate, timely decisions on destination response for possible non-conformities or Quality/Food Safety issues
  • Drive corrective actions for out of spec materials, performing RCA to identify the source and ensure no recurrence
  • Lead the issue management team (integrate, train and coordinate) according to Global guidelines
  • Ensure the plant Document Management System (DMS) is used effectively and maintained with up-to-date control documents
  • Ensure product batches are released to customers only once operations, QC and compliance reviews are completed
  • Continuously develop a quality improvement plan as part of site masterplan to bring the plant to highest performance
  • Identify food safety investments and CAPEX requirements to comply with standards and improve food safety performance
  • Manage QA team planning: budget and capex (short, medium and long term)
Eduation, Language, Skills & Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in chemistry, Biology, Microbiology or Food Science or equivalent (or engineering degree with 7 to 10 plus years in food quality assurance)
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in food safety to include formal training in HACCP. PCQI is a plus.
  • Formal training in Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) food safety standards, preferably FSSC22000.
  • Knowledgeable in MS Office Suite, SAP Systems and other applications used in manufacturing e.g. scheduling, CMMS, MES, etc.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills, analytical ability, leadership strengths and ability to work effectively with a team are required (computer software skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SAP required).
  • Solid knowledge of HACCP, GMP, Pathogen Environmental Monitoring and Facility/Equipment Design.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities as well as urgent requests in a professional and timely manner
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to manage tasks across both factories without losing track of priorities
  • Advanced and creative problem-solving skills, analytical ability, continuous improvement mindset
