The Product Design and Experience (PDX) team at Thryv is responsible for ensuring that design achieves its fullest potential by solving important problems and elevating the way small businesses utilize small business automation to grow. The Manager of Product Design is responsible for helping build the next-generation platform experience to serve hundreds of thousands of small businesses worldwide. As a Manager of Product Design and Experience, you will not only be designing elegant solutions to complex problems, but also leading a design team to deliver impactful, cohesive product experiences.
Responsibilities
- Mentors, guides, and empowers the team's professional growth by enhancing their research, product design, and content design skills, while providing constructive feedback and pushing them to deliver work that goes beyond the status quo.
- Stays up to date on the latest trends, tools, and technologies to keep the team’s skills current, foster innovation, and encourage new ideas that lead to breakthrough solutions.
- Drives a product design strategy aligned with our purpose, values, and mission, while managing large design teams, overseeing multiple projects, and playing a key role in shaping company-wide design strategy and product direction.
- Manages multiple initiatives with strong business acumen, ensuring the team understands objectives, plans work accordingly, and delivers outcomes that meet both business goals and user needs.
- Acts as a storyteller who defines and articulates complex visions, ensuring teams connect user needs to design rationale, while working closely with cross-functional teams to define and drive a product vision aligned with business goals.
- Supports the Directors and Managers in cross-departmental collaboration, including marketing, product marketing, product development, customer support, and sales, while staying informed on consumer trends, market pricing, competitors, and feedback, leading customer-facing design and building strong relationships with senior leaders and executives.
- Develops new user experience design approaches grounded in industry best practices and agile methodologies while optimizing processes, people, and technology to improve efficiency, consistency, and the quality of design outputs, ensuring communication is effective and aligned with product and business goals.
- Owns and leads design operations and the Design System team, establishing efficient workflows, scalable processes, and tools that empower the broader design organization. Drives cross-functional alignment, prioritizes system needs based on product impact, and ensures consistent, accessible, and high-quality user experiences across all surfaces.
Who We’re Looking For
- Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) or equivalent experience, required.
- 6+ years of related experience, required. 2+ years of experience in people leadership or 4+ years in a senior or principal role or similar role that involved significant team leadership and mentoring responsibilities that included creating wireframes, interactive prototypes, and visual design comps for desktop and mobile as well as conducting user research, usability tests, and analysis.
- 2+ years of experience leading or contributing to design operations and/or design systems within a cross-functional product team environment.
- 8+ years of related experience, preferred.
- Expert knowledge/experience in CX, design thinking, product design, UX research, agile methodologies and product management, leveraging user understanding, research, content, design execution and iteration, and a proven track record of successfully and measurably impacting the business and users.
- Expertise in effectively organizing and executing work and in understanding the right levels of work for learning, iterating, and expanding.
- Proven ability to work with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to prioritize design, content, and research work and allocate resources accordingly.
- Proven ability to mentor teams by providing feedback on their work and areas for improvement while leveraging effective leadership and managerial skills to optimize team performance and design processes.
- Expert communication skills, both verbal and written, with the proven ability to collaborate and work in a team environment, both within teams and across the organization.
- Extensive experience collaborating across product development, and working alongside product leadership, along with a proven ability to expand influence across departments and drive design innovation through strategic product leadership.
- Ability to travel less than 5% of the time.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must successfully complete pre-employment screening process, as required.
- Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses, as needed.
