Job Details

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide continuous performance management, coaching and on-going support and development of the team and provide training to new and existing staff as required
  • Management and oversight of month end/year end closing procedures and day-to-day accounting activities of the Pharmacy Accounting team
    • Perform various GL accounts reconciliations and/or review reconciliations prepared by other team members, ensuring that they are adequately supported and analyzed
    • Ensure all of the manual journal entries are completed with the necessary back-up documentation, reviewed for accuracy and compliance with US GAAP and SOX
    • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
    • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly, quarterly and annual financial information
    • Support in analysis and investigation of inventory variances
    • Support documentation and testing of internal controls under SOX within this area
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
  • Supports the general accounting team to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met, and the financial results are complete and accurate
  • Partnering with business stakeholders on safeguards and financial accuracy of inventory across all storage locations
  • Advises associates and other business partners regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • Collaborates with the other finance department members to support overall department goals and objectives
  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Continuous process improvement with regards to processes and related financial systems (ERP), providing support and engagement with any enhancements, upgrades or system conversions
  • Responds to inquiries from the VP of Finance, Controller, and other finance and business unit managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and inquiries tied to this area
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting, CPA required
  • Minimum seven (7) years directly related and progressively responsible experience, including 2 years of inventory management experience
  • Prior supervisory experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area is required
  • Experience working in the Pharmaceutical or Healthcare industry is preferred

MINIMUM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Working knowledge of accounting, and big ERP software packages, Sage experience an asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong supervisory, interpersonal and customer service skills required
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills; attention to detail
  • Ability to implement processes resulting in satisfactory audit practices
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required
